Thrush. This mom needs reassurance.

my one month old baby girl has thrush on her tongue. Pedi prescribed nystatin for her and cream for my nipples. Have you and your babies had thrush? What worked for you? I'm breastfeeding so I feel weird about putting the cream on me. I'm all about natural remedies (loading up on plain Greek yogurt) anyway- would love to hear your success stories on getting rid of it! :) thank you.

Re: Thrush. This mom needs reassurance.

  • We've had and gotten rid of thrush already. I caught it very early because I was on very strong antibiotics (had a uterine infection due to a retained placenta during delivery) so I was expecting it. My doc prescribed diflucan for me and nystatin for both of us. You should wipe off your nipples before feeding when using the cream. Use disposable breast pads and change them often. Give your nipples as much air as possible. Sanitize and wash everything that touches your nipples or LOs mouth. Don't let LO use you as a pacifier.

I felt very overwhelmed at first and thought we were never going to get rid of it but it was gone pretty quickly.

  • Thank you so much! I'm happy you got rid of it so quickly. I had a feeling she had it so hopefully I caught it early too. Thanks again;)
  • What was the best way to administer the nystatin to the baby? They want me to coat her tongue with it, but it has been daunting!!
