Trouble TTC

New RE?

I'm thinking about going to a new RE for a consult. I even called today and made an apt for later this month. But, I feel like I'm cheating on my current RE and am dreading calling the office to ask for my records. My current RE is wonderful and I'm very happy with her. I just think having another set of trained eyes reviewing my chart could be helpful. I know I'm being silly thinking that my current RE would be upset that I'm getting a 2nd opinion because I'm sure she's used to it and probably encourages it. What led me to this info was something that happened yesterday. 11dpo after IUI I started having heavy bleeding. In June, my first IUI resulted in a BFP but the very next day I had this same bleeding. So, I'm getting my period or something at 11 dpo. When I did get the BFP, my progesteron level never got above 5 and thn I miscarried. When I talked to current RE yesterday about this issue her response was something like a good pregnancy won't have these issues. The reason that happened when you were pregnant was because it must have never been viable. And next iui we will try more progesteron. I'm just not happy with those answers. Am I overthiking everything because all I want to do is cry. I'm so frustrated. This was written on mobile. Please excuse typos.

Re: New RE?

  • I strongly believe that you are your own health advocate. I have seen A LOT of doctors. Trust me if you feel like you want to see another RE, go see another RE! Go with your heart. The last thing you want is to look back and wish you had done it sooner.. Just my 2 cents ..

  • I am going through this exact same thing! I have done 3 IUIs with my OB, who isn't bad, but I just need to see an RE at this point. I need the reassurance that I am getting the best possible care. I scheduled a consult with a new RE, which is coming up in less than a week, but I have been putting off submitting the medical release forms because I am afraid my OB is going to be angry. Its ridiculous, I know, but I can't help it. It isn't going to stop me from doing it though. So, I would go ahead and make an appointment. If your old RE is going to throw a hissy fit about you getting a second opinion, then she probably isn't the doctor for you anyway. Good luck!

And I am going to take my own advice and get off my ass and submit my med release forms.

  • I never told my last RE I was leaving or needed records. I just had my new RE ask for them. Not that I felt bad for leaving. They sucked. A lot.

So glad you are considering a new RE @hrushka !! Feeling like a number is the worst.

  • I second @rumbera28 that we women are acculturated to make others happy even at the expense of our own (reasonable, and far more important) needs.

It sounds very smart to get a second opinion, and who knows, maybe that will make your RE check herself and think about what she has done to lose some of your faith in her - and hopefully do some research on progesterone and stop making excuses when a patient has had a devastating loss.

I hope the appointment goes well and that you leave with either restored confidence in your first RE or a plan you feel comfortable with to move on to a new RE!

  • I too struggled with the guilt of cheating on my RE. Just had the appointment with the new one yesterday and I dreaded calling my RE to ask for the documents. I loved the nurses and office, however, at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my family. It never hurts to hear someone's second opinion~ it's good in a way because at least there's documented u/s, bloodwork, SA information that your original RE had to in order to get where at now.

  • I understand that you would feel guilty, particuarly if you like your RE, but there is absolutely nothing wrong in seeking a second opinion. Perhaps the new RE will offer a different perspective or other tests you can pursue. You might decide to return to your first RE after seeking a second opinion - this was my experience, and I'm more confident now because I sought out another view.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).
