Warren is tongue tied. They suggested clipping it shortly after birth, but I opted out since he had gotten circumcised that day (cut much?).
Anyway, now that he is 9 months, his pediatrician is recommending it. I'm okay with it, as I had mine done too around 4 years old.
My husband is leery. Is there any reason NOT to have it done?? Thanks.
Re: Any reason not to clip frenulum?
We went to a LC and she freaked out and told us DD was severely tongue tied and she couldn't believe the incompetence of the hospital staff/doctors for not noticing...although she had no problem BF until my supply dipped from traveling for work so much. We took her to her ped and she said she was fine and should have no problem, but she could clip it for her at any time if it was a concern of ours. For us, it was a matter of whether or not it would help her. If she wasn't thriving or able to eat or speak right, we would do it and may still do it if it is a problem later. However, we trust her ped and hadn't noticed any problems so we opted not to. I am told it is quick and mostly painless, so if your baby needs it, I would do it. But if it isn't causing a problem, personally I wouldn't just clip just because. Just my 2 cents.
