It doesn't sound like fun, but my labor buddy had it done Friday and her baby was born Saturday! It seems like another one of those things that works for some people and not others.
I have had it done and it hasn't done much for me, but it wouldn't HURT anything really (that I know of). It didn't hurt when my doctor was doing it either. I didn't even really notice him doing anything different than a regular internal.
Sure, and if it doesn't get things started then the only harm done is that your Dr and you just got a little chummier..ha. They reallly have to go way up and "strip" the bag of water. I had it done on a thurs or friday, water broke on mon, and had her on the next day, tuesday. I have no clue if it helped or not, but after she did it I was crampy, spotting, etc...up until delivery...which ended in a c-section. Hope this helps!
With DD#1 I had mine stripped twice...it was not really a choice thing just that my doc told me this is we are doing today. I was 2 weeks past due so she wanted to get me going so that we would not have to induce. I did not notice a big differance
I'm not banking on it working-- I've read it only has about a 50% success rate. I'm going to have it on Wednesday, but I'm still planning to need the induction on Sunday... if the sweep works, great, and if not, then at least I'll be prepared.
