June 2014 Moms

**Born to Run Junebugs 11/3**

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays . All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

How were your runs and workouts this week?

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set?

GTKY: Do you hope your LO will share in any of your favorite sports/fitness activities when they get older? Which one(s)?

  • How were your runs and workouts this week?  I had a decent week. I got more strength training in than running, but that's okay because I am tapering for my race this weekend anyway.

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set? Well, I ran my first post-baby race on Oct. 26th (10-Miler) and have a half marathon coming up in 5 days. I feel ready for the half, but it certainly won't be as fast as my usual race times and that's okay. I am almost kind of excited to get it over with as I plan to incorporate a lot more strength training into my routine this winter and look forward to seeing what kind of results I get from that.

GTKY: Do you hope your LO will share in any of your favorite sports/fitness activities when they get older? Which one(s)? I didn't start running until I was in my mid-20's so it's not something I can really wrap my mind around a kid doing (I never ran XC or anything in HS). What I do hope for is that she'll have an appreciation for being physically fit and healthy - in whatever form that may be for her. Some great memories of my childhood involve my mom bringing me to the gym with her and watching her lift weights. Back then, there was no "strong is the new sexy" mindset, but my mom showed me that women could be both and that it was totally awesome. I hope I can show my daughter the same thing.

  • How were your runs and workouts this week?  non-existent this week:( I had such high hopes too. DH started his new job Saturday though, so now he has off on Tues and Wed now so mommy will be getting in some workouts FINALLY!

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set? Staying positive, even though I didn't come close. Looking forward to setting a new goal for November. Aiming for 20 miles for the month plus any other workouts I can get in.

GTKY: Do you hope your LO will share in any of your favorite sports/fitness activities when they get older? Which one(s)? We will definitely have athletes, or marines :) We're good with either. I can't wait for DS to do his first race with me when he's old enough. Also hoping for soccer players since that's what I played all through college, but love for him to do some sports that I wasn't exposed to like volleyball and swimming. DH is hoping for a baseball...soccer is so much better! LOL!

  • Runs: meh. Not as frequent or as good as I wanted. I think we only ran twice?

Goals: since my only real goal is to keep making exercise/running a priority I guess I'm doing ok. I'd like to get a good routine going for 3-4 runs/workouts per week.

Sports: hoping she enjoys physical fitness, she will likely be tall (I'm 6'0"), and if it's her thing id love to be a basketball or volleyball mom.
  • Plan on running Wednesday with a friend! I am also excited that I will be running a 5k thanksgiving week. I know it is really small, but I've ran in a legit 5k. Also, my husband and I bought a jogging stroller last week and I am really excited to try it out. :D
  • I was able to start working out/running at about 6 wks PP. I have done one 5k. My time was obviously not what it was pre baby, but I am happy I have been able to stay active! Do you guys mostly run with your babes or without? The snow will be here soon but we have a home gym which will help huge. I can usually workout for about 40 mins at home if she is not napping before she gets sick of the swing/her toys. I put her on the floor with me when I do yoga etc And she seems to like that haha. What are your tricks to squeezing in workouts?
  • @TheGizzmo To your first question - I mostly run without her, but we do maybe one short run (3-4 miles) with the stroller per week. I have a treadmill at home so I do most of my running on that after LO goes to bed, and I do my long runs with my running club on weekend mornings and DH watches her during that time.

As far as tricks, like I said, I work out after she goes to bed. Not my favorite, but I had been trying to get my workouts in before work (4:30am) and it just wasn't working because inevitably LO would either wake up halfway through or something else would prevent me from getting a good workout in. I'm kind of warming up to the night workout thing, since I don't feel pressured to finish by a certain time. I guess that only works if your LO has an early bedtime like mine does (7pm) but it's worth a shot.

  • @Mease8 He was my immediate thought when someone suggested bearded hotties for this month's siggy challenge!

  • @CharSamm‌ I've never heard of the Toronto Island Girl half marathon. I did my first half marathon in Collingwood, although it's very hilly at least the scenery is beautiful--one to consider! We call our daughter Gizmo after the cute little gremlin in the movie the Gremlins haha :)

@babygabe614‌--Sometimes I try to workout when she goes to bed, but it's not always guaranteed because her bedtime varies. I actually find I have more energy to workout in the late evening, now I just need her to regulate her bedtime!
  • Hey all!  I haven't been on TB in a long time!!  I need this thread so bad! I have been doing random things PP and I just finished T25 a few weeks ago, then got hit with a terrible sinus infection so I'm just starting to work out again after doing nothing for about 3 weeks since being sick!  I need to build up my running mileage so that will be my focus for now (I have a half in March that I was hoping to PR in).  Right now I just feel lost with getting back into the swing of things!  Oh and I still have 7 lbs to lose to get back to PP weight - then another 10.  Womp!   This group will be a great motivator I'm sure!

  • @Kinipela7‌ been missing you! Glad you're back!
  • @babygabe614 - how did you get your running mileage back up?  I completely forgot how to build a base and I have no idea what I'm doing!  I'd like to get to 20 mpw before I start training for real in January for my half in March!

@Kinipela7At first, when I was trying to build my mileage up again, I was only running based on effort. Sometimes I would run for 20 minutes or however long it took me to tire out. After about two weeks, I started worrying about distance again and just slowly crept up a mile or two at a time for my long runs, and would do a couple 3ish mile walk/runs during the week. I think I did my first 8 mile or so long run around 7 or 8 weeks PP. After that, I just jumped into my regular training plan.
