DH wants a pee cover for our bed

Just in case my water breaks while I'm in it. He doesn't like the idea of "baby pee" seeping into our mattress. And not only our mattress, but also trash bags in his car "just in case."

Every time he starts in with this I can't help but LMAO. He wants to know if anyone else agrees with him or is doing this. TIA!

Re: DH wants a pee cover for our bed

  • Hubby hasn't said anything like that. Please correct me if I am wrong I have had many people tell me it's not like a "gush of water" it's  a steady stream like you feel like you are wetting your pants. This is what mom and sister told me. They did say some women have the "gush" but I hear it's not really like that.

  • My DH's reply: "Smart man."
  • I put a "piddle pad' under the sheets & mattress pad on my side of the bed.  Sure enough my water broke in the middle of the night.  I was SOOO glad I did it.  We were able to wash the sheets and mattress pad but I would be really grossed out if there were "that" stain on my mattress.
  • Haha that is awesome....my DH hasn't mentioned this yet, but I wouldn't put it past him to ask the same for our bed/vehicles haha......especially the leather seats in his new truck! LOL
  • I told my DH that i was going to put pee pads on my side of the mattress in a few weeks... but that was my idea... the car i didnt even think about lol.
  • Did this with my first and plan on doing this again--Wal-Mart sells them for pretty cheap.  I just put our mattress pad on top, so as to not hear the vinyl rubbing--which is sooooo annoying.

It will be cheaper than buying a new mattress in the end, if your water does break overnight....

    Good luck!

  • My DH is the same way.  It's really rather annoying.  *Most* women don't have a huge gush when their water breaks.  I bought a waterproof mattress pad to humor him though and never had to put it on.  Because I made him do it and he is too lazy.  haha  My water broke with DD when I went to the bathroom, so it didn't get anywhere inappropriate.
  • I put a couple of the dog's pee pads under my sheets, on top of the mattress just in case.  Chances are slim your water will break and gush all over, but I'd rather not take that chance.  I will probably throw one in each of our cars, too.

With DS, they broke my water at the hospital, but it was more like a steady stream. But I do mean stream, not a steady trickle.  It was "heavy flow" for about 20-30 seconds.  After that a trickle would come out whenever I changed positions since I was laying down for the initial "blast".

  • We bought a waterproof mattress pad at Target for about $30.  I know the chances are slim that we'll need it but I hated to risk ruining our fairly new mattress...
  • My water never broke with DD (and never would have without help), so I hadn't thought about it much....Hrm...

Still seems a little strange though.  BUT, if the mattress cover gives him a warm fuzzy, go for tt.

  • With DD I definitely had one of those mattress protectors on the bed, just in case.  My water did break, but it was as I was bending down to feed the dog.  It was like peeing your pants except you couldn't control the flow.  It kept coming out so I ran to the toilet.

  • We have one for ours. I have been told that you're most likely to break your water in the early morning and I didn't want to risk ruining my mattress.  It's really squeaky and annoying though!

  • We put down some baby waterproof pads under the fitted sheet, but I think I am still going to buy a waterproof mattress cover. It's not something I am willing to chance on a $1k mattress. It's only $30 or so for a mattress cover. It's like life insurance. If you don't have it, you can guarantee something will happen. Just my opinion.
  • I put a waterproof pad on our bed and it's a good thing I did. My water "gushed" in the middle of the night. Our mattress would've been ruined otherwise. I also sat on a towel in his car so as not to ruin his leather seats. None of this was by his request, it was just something that I did.

  • I have a water proof cover for my mattress (and a mattress pad over it for comfort) just in case.

  • I'm going to put one on our mattress. I don't want to ruin my mattress if my water breaks in bed. ?I've heard a lot of moms suggest this as well as leaving it on after the baby comes for those pee/poop accidents on your bed from the baby.

  • we have a waterproof matress cover on our bed all the time anyway. Maybe you can 'steal' a waterproof pad from the baby and sleep on that.
  • I think that is a good idea. I will be putting down a waterproof pad under my side of the bed when I get closer to term. I also plan to have a towel for the car if needed.
  • We got a new mattress right before DD was born.  I was told that water breaking would void the warranty.  They recommended a mattress protector with a warranty that covered water breaking, urine, etc.  If the protector failed - they covered the cost of a new mattress.  I think the protector was only $25 from JCP.  You'll want something fin case they spit-up in your bed, wet your bed as they get older...
  • Puppy pads...my sister used them in bed , in the car, on "her chair" in the family room, at work...

I am getting some this week...just in case
