Sample birth plan

My next doctor appointment is Friday morning and my doctor told me to bring in a sample birth plan so that we can start talking about what I want/don't want. Um, ok. Sounds great. But google is pretty overwhelming and I don't really know where to start. Does anybody have a template that they've used before, or otherwise have a resource that they recommend me going to to start this? I have never seen a birth plan so I have no idea what kind of choices I have/don't have....nor do I know how detailed they could be. This is all kind of another language to me!

    I haven't looked at any yet but my doctor recommended we do take a look because there may be things we don't know about now that we may have an opinion on. I like that she's looking to open up discussion on stuff now though. She wants to know what I want, so I'm happy to discuss and learn!

    This is the one that they use at my Midwife's office. It's not too long and a good quick reference for the hospiatl team.

    I would maybe also check the website of the hospital you will be delivering at. Mine has a birth plan link that includes all of the interventions and options they have available specifically at that facility.

    My husband and I were shocked at all the things listed. It is overwhelming for sure!

    Honestly I would not get caught up in a formal birth plan. Just write down ideas on a piece of paper of what you do and don't want. Every pregnancy is different and you may want to plan how it's going to go down now but be prepared for it not to go that way. I did a birth plan with my first and nothing that I wrote applied and ended up having a c section :( so I didn't bother with the 2nd and won't with this one either...I'll just wing it lol

    I'm printing one because my doctor asked me to, to get the conversation started. It is so detailed - omg. But I'm thinking about it as just sort of my ideal birth, or my goals. But my ultimate goal is for me and baby to both be safe and healthy, so I trust the medical team to do what they need to do to make that happen.  

    I do like the questions about who I want to stay by my side, etc. That part makes me feel warm and fuzzy.  The questions about the episiotomy? Not so much...

    I didn't use a birth plan with DD, but I did make sure I was educated on interventions, medications, etc., so I could make a decision as different situations arose (although none did), and I had an idea of what I wanted. I also had a brief chat with my doctor, and I just told the nurses when I arrived at the hospital that I was not planning to use an epidural or pain meds. I think my current dr. wants me to have a birth plan, which is fine, too!

    Here is a sample birth plan from someone who has given birth 3 times before:

    *Vaginal delivery
    *C-Section if necessary
    *Epidural would be fantastic and I am not so open to other drugs
    *I would like for the baby and I to NOT die.

    Done and done.

    I just kept my birth plan simple last time. Don't include allot of fuss and paragraphs. Guaranteed it won't be read. Maybe do bullet points. And keep it to 1 page.
    I talked allot with my Dr about my wishes. They document that stuff in your chart anyway. At least mine did.

    I recommend having a piece of paper, whether a template or just notes written down bc someone in your face asking questions during labor sucks :P
