I know how horrible these last weeks are but realize your lo's haven't made appearances for a reason. They aren't ready yet. I was induced at 38 weeks (still technically full term) and ds hadn't perfected his suckling. He couldn't latch without a nipple shield and even then was unable to get enough suction to get enough milk and wasn't gaining weight. It was hard to have to drop my dreams to EBF. Just a little insight from someone who was once in your shoes.
I just remember all the stuff I have to do and then debate if I wish to argue with the OB about the Csection date to make it later. Which I think if I did she would have a heart attack because of all she went through to get it done at 39w1d. I would happily go to 40W if they would let me without freaking out. And a crowded (to me) hospital room is a big deterrent for me too.
Plan something each week until then. Like the PP said. Something you can look forward to, that if you get early, you don't get it. I am boring and temperamental. I am looking forward to Black Friday shopping! Yep. Baby, you better not come any earlier than you are, mama doesn't want to miss out on that fun!
I feel like people are more impatient than I am -- asking when she is coming and hoping she makes an early appearance. I'm going on 36 weeks and all I care about at this point is enjoying my sleep when I can and the ease of going to the grocery store and running errands. Take it all in! Enjoy the YOU time while you get it.
Ugh, Idunno. I need to be patient, too. I am not a FTM, only 31w, and I'm over it. I definitely don't want baby coming too early, but for how uncomfortable I am now, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that it will, indeed, get worse in the next 8 weeks (RCS). I've been through this twice before, but it doesn't make it any easier.
My mom was 1 week late with me and 2 weeks late with my brother, so I went in with the expectation that it could be longer than 40 weeks. Then when DS was born at 39w2d, it was a big surprise for me.
What helped me to wait was knowing how good it would be for DS' health to make it to full term. Plus I was working and enjoying sleep, time with DH, and getting stuff ready.
Now I'm only 29w2d with this one, so I probably have at least 10 more weeks to go. I have projects I want to get done at work and at home before DS2 comes, and I enjoy being able to sleep about 7 hours at a time (I haven't had to get up in the MOTN to pee much yet). Like PPs said, it's easier to run errands and get stuff done with the baby on the inside, so I'm ok with dealing with that and letting him get stronger, healthier, and cuter until he's ready to come out.
Re: staying patient
And don't put a lot of emphasis in your due date. If you're due in 4 weeks, you might have up to 6 weeks left.
And apostrophes don't make plurals.
~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~
