I FEEL LIKE DEATH...HELP!

So ladies I just have to share and vent a little. I feel awful. I'm a little bit over seven weeks and started feeling horrible on Sunday. I have zero energy it feels like I can barely get out of bed in the morning even if I sleep for ten hours. I have no appetite and when I do eat or drink I can't keep it down. I can tell I'm getting dehydrated which doesn't help. My Dr prescribed Zofran which helps a little. It however does nothing for the horrible headaches and lethargy. I'm a full time nursing student so I'm trying to keep my crap together but it's so hard. ANY TIPS or help I'M DESPERATE for some relief. Thanks ladies.

Re: I FEEL LIKE DEATH...HELP!

  • I agree that Vitamin B6 is worth a try.  My doc suggested 25mg every 8 hrs, but I usually end up taking it twice a day and it has helped.  I also use Zofran for the worst times.  It's a pain that it only seems to be working a little for you.  I don't have any other advice except that I feel your pain.  I'm a nurse and I remember my nursing school days.  GL and I hope you find some relief soon.

  • Dehydration and hunger will make all your symptoms worse. Gatorade is a super idea, I found that it was better with ice and a straw. I also loved sipping chocolate milk, and munching corn Chex first thing in the morning. Don't be afraid to try whatever sounds like it'll help, pregnancy is crazy :) Also, remember to do it one day at a time. It won't last more than 33 more weeks (7 if you're lucky!).
  • Zofran made me more sick in the hospital when I was having nausea after having DD. If it's not helping, there may be another option. I'd talk to your doctor.

Also, give yourself a break. Your body is making a human! It's tiring stuff. You will no doubt feel more like yourself soon.

  • I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time of it. I started feeling horrible at 7 weeks too, like a switch. I am 9 and a half now and starting to feel a little better. My nurse prescribed Diclegis (similar to Zofran) and it has helped get me through the night. She also recommended B6 which I took after lunch, I seem to be doing okay now, which is nice because the afternoons/evenings have been the worst. A combo of feeling like I have an awful flu and incredibly nauseous. I feel your pain, although I have not actually thrown up just feel like I am always on the verge! Sucks.
Talk to your nurse about B6 - maybe some extra of that will help?....
Good luck and hopefully it doesn't last too much longer.
  • I'm right there with ya. There isn't a time during the day where my head isn't being help up by my arm. I have officially decided against my decision to want 5 kids. I only want 1. I just hope to feel like a human again soon.
  • THANKS LADIES YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I for sure recommend coconut water and B6. Also for headaches, if you take peppermint essential oil and mix it with olive oil and rub it on your temples it helps a lot. I get migraines and am not taking Advil/aspirin/Tylenol etc because of the pregnancy. I tried avoid them pre-pregnancy as well, so this natural remedy is my go to. Dehydration leads to worse headaches also!

Acupuncture is also very helpful! I'm lucky and work at a chiropractic/acupuncture clinic, even just doing pressure points at home helps with nausea!
  • Unisom and my prenatal at night, with B6 in the morning is helping some. Mostly I just lay around and hope that my kids wont be too scarred from all the TV time they are getting. We are chugging along to the glorious second trimester ....

    Love is multiplied: DS #1: 1.5.99 ~ DS #2: 9.23.11 ~ DD 8.29.13

  • If you are getting dehydrated you need to be very careful. It will make the symptoms worse too. Tylenol for the headaches, and TRY to keep eating something!
Last pregnancy I had days I was throwing up Zorfran. I would get headaches and felt so ill and Tylenol was to hard to keep down.  The only caffeine I had was tiny bits of coke I would sip and it helped settle my stomach. That plus Preggo Pop Drops, and skittles.
I would also get up at 3 am and eat something, like a  granola bar, fruit anything  healthy to keep my stomach from getting empty.
Also Zofran really made me constipated which they didn't tell me about. so try to get enough fiber.

  • Even though it might be tough (I puke mine up) try your best to take your prenatal vitamin and keep it down. Make sure you are eating tons of small meals that are packed with vitamins. Lots of fresh fruits, veggies and meats. Your body knows what it needs. You might also have an anemia issue. Your office should be able to tell you based on a blood draw. But, they will tell you to increase iron by taking a pill (which is harsh and can make you puke.)
    Good luck!
  • I'm sorry you're feeling bad :( I'm 7 weeks as of yesterday and I just got hit with the nausea too. Sounds like yours in worse though. I know it's no fun. Everyone else has had good suggestions. With my DD's pregnancy I found that even though I felt awful, forcing something down in the morning like saltines really helped settle my stomach. Also, I used Preggie Pops, which I got off Amazon, that also really helped me.

  • I am in the same boat here. I have been completely nonfunctional for the last two days. So tired/nauseated/dizzy.

  • Just spoke with my dr this morning as I have been feeling super sick as well. They recommended b6 50mg 3x a day, Unisom at night (the important ingredient is doxylamine, which the gels don't have so be careful!), and any fluids I can keep down. So far Popsicles and Italian ice have been okay and I do feel a bit better this morning. Hope something helps, hang in there!

  • Girl I was the same way and I'm telling you unisom saved my life! Before I started taking it I seriously couldn't even get out of bed and I felt like I had the flu 24/7 - I honestly thoigjt I was
Going to have to quit my job!! My dr said to start taking half of a unisom with a vitamin b-6 every night before bed - for one you sleep amazing and for two you aren't sick the next day! Seriously saved my life.
  • I have the same problem. Try to get protein in your meals at least twice a day. In the mornings I try to have a egg or too. Also, potatoes seem to be working for me. my doctor has given me Zofran. I take it 20min before i actually get out that bed and that seems to help. Also, try to have a lot of snacks handy. The more full you are the less sick you feel. I've also found eating crushed ice helps. I'm in love with ice right now. Finally tell you teacher your situation so they will understand that it's not that you re just slacking off. Good luck
  • I'm right there with ya. I'm losing a lot of weight, which is worrying me. I'm going to ask my dr this week about the unisom. I can hardly function without a preggie pop in my mouth. If you can, eat a few saltines before you get up in the morning. I can usually only manage 2, but if I combine that with a little Gatorade and a preggie pop, I can at least drag myself through the morning without puking. I follow that with one or two saltines + a liquid every hour or two, whatever I can keep down. I alternate Gatorade/water/decaf tea/ginger ale/soup broth. And try to sneak in some solids here and there. Good luck!
  • I feel your pain. I am constantly nauseous. Even thinking about food makes me want to vomit. This is awful!!!
