hand, foot, mouth disease

Baby's first nursery disease...YAY :(  This was his third week in the church nursery and he gets it.  His rash spread this morning pretty quickly in about 3 hours, and he was fussy most of the day until I finally gave him tylenol.  Evening hours went a lot smoother.  Apparently it's why I've had a sore throat.  I guess I'm just thankful he's getting this at almost 8 months old, instead of newborn age.

  • Hugs! DS had it when he was probably a year and a half. It was painful for DS and he would wake up crying through out the night. Hope your LO gets better soon!

  • Aw poor baby. My 2.5 year old DS had it a few months ago, pretty sure I had a mild version with a soar throat. Luckily DD did not get it. DS was pretty miserable for a good 10 days though. It stinks as there is not much you can do other than give Tylenol, keep hydrated and lots of snuggles and sleep.
  • It's running through DD's daycare right now...did your LO start off with a fever or blisters or anything? How long did it last? I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that she's going to get it... :(

  • I noticed yesterday when he woke up a small rash on the inside of his wrist, and it spread enough by noon for me to take him to the dr.  He was also slightly warm the night before.  He woke up like 4 times last night upset.  Normally he sleeps from 8pm-7am straight through.  This morning the rash is looking worse and he has some on his mouth.  The dr. said thats to be expected, it will get worse over the next few days before it gets better.

  • We had it around three months old - I feel your pain. My LO only had one blister on his hands or feet so we almost didn't know he had it.

Mommy, however, got the crap kicked out of her by it... Thank God I can only ever get it once!!

  • I was wondering if you can get it more than once...can kids get repeat cases?

It's a one time illness - that first exposure is all that's needed to build immunity to any future cases.
