2nd Trimester

sore hips

The past few days my hips have been very sore! I know this is normal but could it mean that he will be coming soon?? I'm due in January and I think it's way too early for my hips to be hurting this much. I'm probably just paranoid...

Re: sore hips

  • I'm 24 weeks and mine is terrible. Hurts to lay on both sides. Have not found any way to relieve it yet.

  • Its worse during the day than at night most times because I do sleep with a pillow between my knees. I work during the day and it makes it awfully hard to get through the day.
  • Pelvis and hip pain are just par for the course during pregnancy. By the second trimester your uterus has grown from the size of an orange to a soccer ball. You've probably gained 10-20 lbs and have to walk a little different by this point. The hormone relaxin has widened your hips and made them feel loose and just a bit strange. Ligaments are stretching and everything is trying to prep for giving birth.

My best advice is to make sure you are exercising regularly and try out a chiropractor. Walking (with good shoes!) and swimming are great during pregnancy, and lots of stretching. I am a huge believer in using a chiropractor during pregnancy. During no other time in your life is it more important to have your pelvis properly aligned, as you're growing and stretching and changing so much in such a short amount of time. I hope you'll give it a try, I think it would really help.

  • OP I got one of those memory foam toppers.  It helped tremendously.  It takes eliminates the pressure points your mattress creates when you sleep.  So my recommendation is, memory foam topper, a pillow between your knees and one under the arm that is on the outside.  Best sleep ever.
