TTC after 35

TTC 40+ femara & progesterone

Hi all! My husband and I have been TTC for over 3 years now. We started trying 2-3 yrs ago and got preg 3 times, but lost in first trimester each time. We took a year off and started trying again 8 months ago, but I haven't gotten preg yet. I am ovulating and have had ultrasounds to make sure everything looks good. I have a 23 yr old, so I know I can carry a baby. I'm currently taking femara and oral progesterone. Is it normal to spot or have pink to blackish discharge on progesterone? It makes it difficult for me to know when the actual start of my period is. Also, if I sleep flat on my back anytime during the week before my period, I will get backaches and spot red. Does anyone else do this? It turns black and diminishes away after I get up and move around.

Re: TTC 40+ femara & progesterone

  • Welcome.  I have no experience / knowledge with progesterone so I cannot offer insight.  I have backaches during /pre af no matter how I sleep so I cannot help you there either.  Just best wishes for you and I would say red flow is start of cycle not pink / other color discharge.

  • Hi there.  I don't know if it's normal to spot with progesterone or not, but I take it every cycle and have not experienced spotting with it for what that's worth.

  • Hello and welcome! I never had spotting with progesterone so am not sure if that's common or not. Have you thought about having a repeat loss panel completed to help identify why you've have repeat miscarriages? It might help ensure you are able to maintain next time you get pregnant. I'm very sorry for your losses! I know how bad but sucks.

  • Welcome!  I don't know anything about oral progesterone, but spotting right before your period (that sounds like it's when it's happening--apologies if I misunderstood) sounds pretty normal.  I'd still ask my doctor about it, though.

  • Hi and welcome.  So very sorry for your losses.  I've also never spotted with progesterone.  I'd probably mention it to your doc and see what they think.  I'd also second having a repeat loss panel done.  Are you seeing a RE?  If not, they might be able to give you more insight and help you to maintain pregnancy next time.  Good luck!
