Padsicles

Just bought supplies to make padsicles. Shit's getting real. I can't believe how soon all of our babies will be arriving. Anyone else planning to make these famous padsicles ahead of time?

Re: Padsicles

  • Lol. This is as ambitious as I get. No freezer meals. Only two ingredients and the mess seems minimal. If I for some reason have to get a section I will fedex you halfsies of my stash ;)
  • Loading the player...
  • What's a padsicle?
  • @acac104‌ they are pads that you add witch hazel and aloe to (these are the ingredients I'm using) and then fold back up in the wrapper and freeze. Supposed to feel phenomenal on your lady parts after birth. Look up padsicles on Pinterest- there are a ton of links.
  • Are you doing them with the essential oils or just the witch hazel?

  • Doesn't the witch hazel activate the pad and puff it up? (or gel it up?)

    Or

    Is that the point???

    I'm not crafty.

I love not knowing what to do here as evidence of not being crafty. I'm with you--but maybe you just have to try it to see how it goes.

  • @CandEChicago‌ I thought about getting some lavender essential oil but probably too lazy.

@feeshah‌ witch hazel serves as an anti-inflammatory and helps soothe. I also read it is good for hemorrhoids.
  • I was planning on making them but LO came before I had the chance. They would've been fantastic.

  • @MissChristineMarie -  Use Google or the links provided above.  ;)

Looks like you make up about 20 - 24 pads.  The one link said you use about 4 pads a day.  Not sure if that is true.

    Test
  • I got the overnight super long ones. Don't want the baby to feel like he's the only one wearing a diaper.
  • After you put the stuff on them can you fold them back up? Won't the stuff rub off and will they be impossible to unfold once frozen???

  • MH just said he'll make them for me! Yay, I can continue being lazy!!! ;-) :-))
omg I love your husband! my H would totally do this too, maybe they can be friends.

  • Bought the ingredients long ago, thanks for the reminder! I'm only going to make a handful and if I like them/use them then I'll make more as I go I suppose.

Thank you for reminding me! I pinned padsicles all over Pinterest when I first found out I was pregnant but totally forgot about them. Did you have a hard time finding witch hazel or was it just at the pharmacy?
Witch hazel is available in the first aid aisle.  I think most major retailers and pharmacies have it.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

  • My hospital has the pads with ice packs built in and the nurses encouraged me to take home a ton last time, which lasted me long enough.  If I run out of those I plan to make the padsicles though.

  • If you make these, buy thick, long pads. I had planned to make these as well but Luke wanted out early. I'm still wearing the thick giant hospital pads cause they give me some cushion. If your baby isn't in the NICU, it might not be a big deal. But when you are spending a lot of time walking, in the car, etc. you need all the help you can get!! My hospital gives out dermalplast. It's an over the counter spray anesthetic. Made with benzocaine and menthol. Numbs things up pretty well which is awesome! Also, I was terrified it would hurt to pee...it doesn't. I've got a stage 2 tear and another tear on the top. They sting but the pee doesn't bother them.
  • So I just realized the witch hazel I bought contained alcohol. I think I read that it needs to be alcohol free. Anyone else use witch hazel with alcohol? (I assume it'd burn!)

As for tucks pads you can use but it'd be a lot more expensive.
  • I read a few articles that said to make sure: the witch hazel is alcohol free, the aloe vera is a gel, and to let them thaw ~5 mins before use so they don't freeze to your skin!  I didn't think about letting them thaw-happy I read that.
  • I never made these before, but I did use extra long pads with 3-4 tucks pads on them sprayed with dermoplast (plus a spray or 2 directly on my self) frozen sounds too cold, but that spray on a tucks pad feels divine.

I'm pretty positive you don't want alcohol on your swollen, sore bits. Pretty damn positive
  • I plan on making these, I am very small and just curious if anyone knows of the thicker pads that are shorter in length? For my period I was using the Kotex Tweenie's pads because they are shorter than regular pads.

I requested extra ice pack pads to take home last time.  I used them for a couple days then didn't need them anymore.  I'll take some extra home this time too.

  • The only place you MAY find alcohol free is at a health food store... Just as long as the alcohol content for the hazel is under 14% you should be okay... Got mine at Walmart and the recipes I found all had alcohol in them. But I made my pads last weekend ;)
  • totally making these. thanks for the reminder! they may be more important than a freezer meal stash as far as fridge real estate goes, haha
