Is anyone's LO NOT sitting?

My guy will be 6 months next week, and doesn't sit unassisted yet. Anyone else in my boat? I'm not super concerned, just wondering. He prefers to steamroll on the carpet. He gets frustrated after about 5 minutes in the bumbo or sitting upright with the boppy. I'm not sure if it's his reflux, or if he's just lazy....

What'ya got mamas?

  • Dd is 5 1/2 months and is lazy about sitting. She topples right over.

  • Dd is sitting (6.5 months or so). DS didn't have a stable sit until he was 7 months.

  • DS turned 6 months on Saturday and he still doesn't sit unassisted. If he's got an arm holding him up in a perfect position he'll maybe last 3 seconds. He still even slouches to the side a bit in his high chair :-/
  • DS would immediately face plant if I had him unassisted. Don't worry. You are not alone!

  • DD (6 months in a few days) sits unassisted but never rolls, so I figure babies choose what they're interested in.
  • DS does it for a couple of seconds then falls over like a ton of bricks - laziness I tell you!

  • DS can sit for about 3-4 min then he like to throw himself backwards and gets mad. It's annoying. And he was 6 months on the 30th. I'm not pushing it though I think he will crawl before he sits up completely unassisted.
  • I'm happy to read these. DS will be 6 months on the 17th and doesn't seem to want to sit, but my friend's 4 month old is sitting pretty well on his own.

  • Nope, not happening over here. I feel like 6 months is the average, but that isn't everyone. DS1 was sitting unassisted at 5 months but DS2 doesn't even really seem close to it happening. So who knows.

  • DS just starts jiggling when I try to sit him up by himself. His back turns to rubber and he looks at me like I'm crazy. Every once in a while I can get him to sit up, but he almost immediately topples over.

  • I'm constantly trying to rein in my crazy over this stuff. DD still isn't even rolling. She rolled from tummy to back once and then went on strike. She can sit unassisted for a short time, but she either gets lazy or reaches too far and topples over.

  • DS will be 6 months on the 16th. He can sit for a few seconds but that's it. He only rolls when he is sleeping. Doesn't have much motivation when he is awake to roll. My bet is lazy. DH says it is because he has a big head
  • Totally normal! It's still so young at this age to be sitting. My LO is just 5mths and sits assisted only. Very minimally unassisted and that's it. Don't worry.
  • Lil over 6 months here and we aren't sitting unassisted yet. She loves to sit up in the bumbo, by the arm of the couch and in the boppy

  • DD is nearly 5 and a half months old and can't sit up even for a second without major assistance. Even then she slumps and slouches. I'm not worried. She's 2 weeks younger than DS was when he learned to sit on his own, and she's not nearly as physical as he was, so I figure she'll get around to it eventually.

  • We are at 5 1/2 months and Tobias is still fairly wobbly sitting. He can roll from back to belly but not the other way. He does seem to like sitting in his bumbo by his playmat toys. He seems to get stronger every week so I haven't been too concerned yet, I figure he will get there when he's ready.
  • Ds 5.5 m just started rolling over last week..he's done side to side for a long time and even now he only rolls over when he really wants something lol! Sitting unassisted is maybe a few good seconds if he's got his arm propping him just right otherwise he topples!

  • I have this little visual that shows that most babies will crawl before they sit unassisted; but of course, every child is different.

Do they mean getting themselves into a sit or holding themselves in a sit when placed there? Two different things. DS couldn't get into a sit until he was crawling (~10 months, but he could hold a sit at 7 months)

  • 5.5 months and she just started.  It seemed like it happened overnight.  Its probably because daycare keeps her in the excersaucer too long!
She still doesn't roll from tummy to back though which i thought was supposed to happen first.  She was really late to roll from front to back too.  Every baby is different!

My DD still won't go from tummy to back either. I think she decided to sit instead lol. She can sit unassisted for 5-10 min and just hangs out like that. But she hasn't attempted rolling from tummy to back for a while now.

This is us. DS has no interest in rolling, but sits like a champ.
Same here! I try to teach her to roll but she fights it because she hates being on her belly. She has been sitting unassisted for a few weeks now no problem. I'm glad she's not the only one!

  • Neither of my ladies sit unassisted yet.

I did see some progress after putting them in a milk crate for pictures, though.  We may have to institute some milk crate time daily.

This is DD.  She's sitting for 5-10 mins unassisted, but has only rolled belly to back once, and back to belly twice.  She's figured out she can push off with her feet when she's on her back or belly to get to what ever toy she wants.

  • Sits like a champ. He used to have zero interest in being on his back or belly. Starting to like it more and more. He's even trying to get on his knees but his arms aren't strong enough yet. Prefers to sit when playing.

  • DD is way more interested in crawling than sitting. I swear she wants to run around the room. She will roll across the floor and get up on hands and knees, but doesn't care for sitting or really in being still ever. If I sit her up she will balance on hands briefly, but then either face plant or fall back (against pillows).

Hah totally. Sorry. The knee thing is only a couple days old.

My friends son is 2 weeks older than mine and is already crawling! I know you shouldn't compare but I was all WTF.
