Never ending cycle... Help!

We have somehow gotten ourselves stuck in a never ending cycle and I have no idea how to fix it.

My LO won't sleep because she is hungry.... But she won't eat because she is too tired!!!

We are on day 3 of this horrible cycle! All of the sudden my LO won't sleep more than 10-20 mins at a time. When I go in and pick her up she instantly falls back asleep if I put her down, she wants up, even if I hold her she wakes up and complains and then falls back to sleep. She is always hungry because when it comes time to eat she passes out and doesn't finish her meals.

This is continuing at night as well, she has started waking up ever 2-3 hours but falls asleep before she finishes eating. She had been pretty consistently waking up every 4-5 hours at night.

By the time my husband got home yesterday I was in tears, and now we are only half way through the day and my tears have already started.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Or have any advice?

  • Have you tried a swaddleme or something similar? And a pacifier? She sounds like she is just feeling super needy. Sometimes mine is like that during the day and if I put her in the boba carrier and go for a walk she will sleep deeply enough that I can put her down.

  • I'm on mobile so can't see if you have a siggy, but how old is LO? She could be going through a major growth spurt our mental leap. I've had weeks like you describe with both of my kiddos.

It sounds like a combination of cluster feeding and clingyness. I totally understand your frustration! It will pass though. If you have a baby carrier definitely use it so you can move around. Reach out for help if you can too, just having someone else hold her for awhile can really save your sanity.
  • Sorry, I meant to add that she is swaddled with a sound machine on. She is not a huge fan of pacifiers.

    She is 7 weeks.

She finally gave in and nursed then downed a huge bottle and crashed, been sleeping for about a hour!

I am thinking it is a mix of growth spurt and mental leap, she was also a content happy baby until about a week ago and it was like a switch flipped! Which makes it even harder because I felt like we were on such a good schedule!

  • Mine was doing this last week. He is almost 8 weeks now, a and I just have to make sure he eats as much as possible during feeds. I try to change him mid feed so it will help him to wake up more. Also, he only sleeps for maybe an hour or less at a time during the day and has one nap that is 2-3 hours. He only has one long stretch of sleep that is about 4 hours. Hang in there. With all if these mental leaps and growth spurts, they say the first 12 weeks are the hardest. Here's to week 13 coming fast! Lol
  • You just described my day exactly. How old is your baby? Mine will be 8 weeks Thursday. I hope this doesn't continue!
  • @kaileemariep‌ I am glad I am not alone! And now she usually goes down for bed awesome and she can't seem to stay asleep, which has never happened! She is 7weeks (will be 8 on Saturday).

  • I came on here tonight with the exact same struggles. Nice to know I am not the only one! My LO is 8 weeks too. Anyone know how long this stage lasts??
  • My daughter also is 7 weeks now and she was like that also at 3-4 weeks. I read an article where you give your baby a bath every night in dim lighting so they know it's night time and bedtime (baby's are still confused between night and day) around the same time for two weeks, (I use Johnson and Johnson bedtime bath and lotion, works like a charm every time) then feed them afterwards (should put them to sleep), they'll get use to that schedule and will sleep through out the night or until their next feeding. And it works great. My daughter is always out before or at midnight.
  • Everything you're describing is pretty normal as they become more aware as they get older. And they go through growth spurts around the same time. It's not fun but I promise it gets better! Hang in there!!
