Voting thread!

Does anyone actually get time off to vote? My workplace is super flexible but it's in a different state from where we live/are registered so extra time in the middle of the day wouldn't help.

But our polls are open 6am-8pm, and we'll all walk over tonight after work. DD likes to help us push the buttons. It's a very underwhelming ballot over here:
- hugely lopsided Senate race with two crappy candidates
- elect three school board members from the three candidates listed
- elect two judges from the two candidates listed

I've never missed an election since I was old enough to vote so I'm going, but this one definitely had me thinking about staying home.

Happy voting!

My work encourages voting and allows (paid) time off to vote.

That being said, the lines were so short that I was able to vote, drop off at daycare, stop at Starbucks and not be late.  The polling place is next to our house so before work is really my best option.

  • I voted early last Friday.
  • Polls close at 8pm here and the station is a 5 minute walk from my house. I just go after dinner.
  • We don't necessarily get time off to vote but we have a super flexible WFH schedule so we all just go vote whenever we feel like it.  I try to go based on when the lines will be the shortest.

  • I'll vote at lunch. Our polling place is between work and home, so it's easy to get to. We have an exciting governor race here, so I look forward to voting.

  • I don't think we get paid time off, but no one would have any trouble getting in early or late for voting.  Like any other sort of non-work related appointment, you'd just be expected to make up the time.

I live in a small town and it took a grand total of 6 minutes from the time I parked to the time I got back to my car.  I go before work so there are absolutely no lines to wait in. I mostly just wanted to make sure I got in a vote for governor in this election... we'll see if my state chooses to be collectively stupid about this again-again :)

  • I am "non clinical" today, so I had my nanny come early enough for me to vote before parent-teacher conference. I usually do early voting if I have to work on Election Day. I really only get paid for what I bill, except for the portion of my salary paid by the VA, so no I don't get PTO to vote.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I always get in late (9 or 9:50) because of the school drop-off schedule and the polls for my precinct are at the library across from LO2's preschool, so I just was about 5 minutes later today and voted this morning. It's a fairly big election in Mass this year (no incumbent for governor) so I wanted to beat the evening crowd.

  • i don't get time off to vote, nor do i work close enough to where i live to go on my lunch break. :S

i know it's a first-world problem, but i'm irritated that i have to go after work since i get home late and don't have a lot of time in the evenings. mornings are hectic and it's way crowded if you go before work.
  • I have the flex to go whenever. DD is home with strep (confirmed last night at the ped). It is pouring rain here and we both got totally soaked in a flooded parking lot even with an umbrella.

The big race for me here is governor - women's rights are hanging in the balance.

  • We don't get time off, but I will be leaving a little bit early tonight to go.  We usually go as a family.

I agree about filling in the little boxes with a pen.  It reminds me of old scantron tests - ugh.  I miss pulling the levers.

  • I have the flexibility to go as well but for those in our workplace who don't, they do give PTO for it. There was no line when I went, they forgot to give me a sticker :( and the ballot was so boring. like 3-4 races that had more than one candidate and a slew of single candidates....  And in my state my votes will be swallowed up by the other party but oh well... ;)
  • I didn't care for the touch screens Virginia has.  Our precinct uses the pen and scantron.  I like it much better.  We put the ballot into the scanner and wait for the machine to tell us it was accepted.  I like having the paper back-up as solid proof of voting tallies.

  • No time off to vote. We mail in ballots. Hot topics this time around are marijuana legalization and mandatory GMO labeling.

  • I'm salaried, so no one would notice or blink if I were late or left early to vote. But I was home sick today, so I just went around noon when lines were short. (Between morning and afternoon naps... This cold is kicking my butt.)
