February 2015 Moms

A dedicated GD test waiting room would be amazing!

As i sit in the super uncomfortable waiting room of my medical office's lab trying to get through my 1hr test, i find myself dreaming about my ideal GD test waiting room.

I imagine chaise lounges or recliners, a few entertainment options aside from the usual basket of 2 year old magazines, which have been touched by all manner of people suffering from who knows what possibly communicable illness, lovely wood floors, stylish decor and WiFi (why is this still a luxury?!), and beautiful men whose job it is to rub the feet and shoulders of the women waiting through this deathly boring hour.

  • I know what I'll be thinking about Thursday after I chug that bottle of nasty and sit surrounded by women who are 9 months pregnant and whatever family herd they decided to bring with them. Why do people bring their mom, cousin, friend, aunt and 3 kids to an appointment? I'm not exaggerating either because I've seen it at my OB office. Thank God it's November though. All those ice storm of Feb 14 babies can come out and I'll have the waiting room to myself for the most part.

  • @willvilljill - SO JEALOUS!!!

My Quest Diagnostics didn't even have magazines or a television - just the standard waiting room chairs, which were quite uncomfortable by the time I was halfway through the hour.  I brought my Nook and read, but a recliner would have been heavenly!

Now I'm thinking a lab needs to partner with a nail salon - get a pedicure while waiting out your hour.  I bet far fewer women would complain about the test :)

  • I feel you!! I am at the doctor right now taking my 3 hour glucose tolerance test. My sugar was a little high when I took the 1 hour test. I started the test at 8:30 and I won't be out of here until 11:30. :( boooo had to drink the nasty sugar drink and they will draw my blood 3 time after that each hour. I'm sitting here wishing I could just lay down and close my eyes for a little bit. My phone is dying quickly!
  • My husband got called into work last minute for my 2 hour glucose test so I was forced to be one of those crazy women who brings their children. So not fun. They survived though and we got Jamba Juice after.
  • I go to a HUGE OB office with several offices. 15+ docs, MW, and MFW. At the main location there is the main waiting room when you check in and then what I call "the maze" when they call you back. They have separate waiting room for everything.  First a lab waiting room for weight and blood pressure. Then the regular OB waiting room.  They have an U/S waiting room.  A MW waiting room. They have a MFM waiting room.  And I found out last time they have a mythical GD test waiting room too!!! I took a sneak peak and they have loungers, flatscreens, WIFI, computers, and a library of books and magazines.  Little more excited now to go.  I guess that's the perks of going to a large practice. I'll fill you all in on the experience.

  • They put me In a sunroom with recliners for my 3 hour!! But the one hour was at a different hospital in uncomfortable lab chairs. Yuck! Hope it flys by
  • Wow, you hit the nail on the head with this waiting room fantasy! My one hour was spent on an uncomfortable bed, because I passed out shortly before the test, in a super cold room with florescent lighting so bright that I felt like my retinas were burning off!
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • That would have been nice to have during my 3 hour test when I was trying not to hurl.

My doctors office has the most uncomfortable chairs. But at least when I go I get to watch the DIY network so that makes up for it.

  • I love the fact that I get to drink mine at home and make sure I am at my doctor's before the hour is up! I will wish for good wifi and a fast hour for y'all!!
  • Oh, I love this idea. :) I'd want a massage chair with outlet plugs so I can bring my cell phone or laptop charger, so I can waste away the hour. :)  The one hour one wouldn't be so bad, but I'm going to dread it if I have to do the 3 hour one...

  • Because I'm overweight this is my second 1 hour test, did the first one at 12 weeks and passed now at 28 weeks I do the next thankfully I can drink mime at home, remember the time I started and arrive 15 min prior. I do agree though a nice comfy waiting room would be nice, check even for the entire pregnancy lol
  • I knew I shouldn't have opened this post. Now I am just jealous of all of you who get to drink the stuff at home! ;)
