prenatals make me puke

It never fails, the last 2 weeks, whenever I take my prenatal vitamin, I puke about 10-20 minutes later. I've tried switching the time of day I take it, switched tablet brands, switched to gummies, taken it with food, taken it without, taken it right before laying down for bed. I checked the iron and b6 contents which a lot of people recommended and NOTHING seems to be working. Is anybody else having a similar problem?? I really want my baby to be healthy, so I don't wanna stop taking them, but it's really doing no good if it's just coming up later.....please help...

Re: prenatals make me puke

  • Vitamins make me nauseous also. I now use New Chapter from a whole foods. They are amazing! No nausea at all :)

  • Could you call your dr for advice?  For me, taking them at night helps but it sounds like that doesn't even help you. :(

Little Sister is on the way!
  • I had to switch brands because mine were doing the same.  I now also take mine first thing in the morning and then eat a decent breakfast and that seems to help.

  • Have you tried the Flintstone chewables? My ob recommended them and they've been great. No nausea/vomiting and everything you need in there! Good luck!

  • I have to take prescription prenatal from my doctor because I get sick from them too. Maybe ask your ob.

It depends on the brand. centrum prenatals had me doubling over in pain even after taking them on a full stomach. Switched to costco's nature made brand and I'm fine.
  • I bought prenatals from The Honest Company and I swear they help with my nausea and don't make me feel sick like others do.
  • Mine were making me constipated and nauseous, but my Dr. told me (via phone) I could stop taking them for a while as long as I took Folic Acid on it's own... they said I can re-introduce prenatals in my 2nd tri.

  • My doctor also recommended just taking folic acid. I did for a while but switched back because I wasn't comfortable not taking a full vitamin. I just took it with a glass of milk versus water right before bed and that seemed to make the difference. I was also taking diclectin at the same time with the milk too.

A friend of mine was told to take the flint stone vitamins as well. For sure speak with your doctor and I hope you find something that works.

be careful with the flintstones-- they contain aspartame. In true confessions, I took them my entire pregnancy with DS.

I have the same problem with prenatals. I'm so nauseated and just want to wretch at the thought of taking them at the moment. So. It's sporadic.

  • I recommend talking to your dr. Mine prescribed medication for the nausea which I take 20 min. Before taking my prenatal.
  • Thanks everyone! You gave me a couple good suggestions I might try before my appointment next week.
  • Try Prenate mini! Make sure you get a coupon, with your prescription. I pay $10 for mine!
  • Call your OB. I have always needed an rx.
