Rec your exercise DVDs

I've lost a lot of weight over the last year because of the diet I am on and am at my lowest weight since having children, however, my body is soft and saggy from lack of exercise.  My muscles are literally non-existent and I guess since I'm nearing my mid-30s I should probably start worrying about heart health and osteoporosis and all of that stuff.

Now that I'm home full-time I can't afford a gym membership, nor do I have time to workout outside of the home (or the energy to do it before kids wake in the morning or after they are in bed at night).  I figure I could manage throwing in a DVD a couple times a week and doing it in the living room while the kids play or try to do it with me.

I was a dancer a long time ago (ballet, not exotic....lol), so I like that kind of thing.  My only other preference for the video is that it has clean language, as it will be playing while the little ones are around.  Any good recs?

  • I like the insanity DVDs but they are that insanity. I can do it while my daughter plays around me. Sometimes she even tries to join in. It's a lot of jumping. They aren't super long so I like that. Good luck!

  • Hi! Sorry haven't posted in a while but to second the insanity, perhaps T25 will work for you. They are from Shaun T (same person from insanity), but they are only 25 minutes. They have really shaped my body. Highly recommend
  • It's super old, but I used to do "I Want Those Abs" with my mom....on VHS! I liked it so much though I bought it on DVD when I moved out. I have "I Want That Body", but I've only done the abs related ones on it. The videos are short, so I can do one or two before the kiddos wake up, or when they're napping or eating lunch.

  • I like Shaun T's "Hip Hop Abs;" it is fun and clean.

I also really like my "The No Om Zone" DVD...I'm not in any way, shape, or form a yogi, but I can get on board with this girl and her no-nonsense approach.

  • I love insanity but its a crazy workout that is meant to be done 6 days a week for 60 days.  I also like the Jillian Michaels DVDs as they are only 30 min and a great workout.
  • Jillian michaels is a good one too!

  • I love all the videos on the Pop Sugar fitness website - and bonus, they are free! If you have chromecast I think you can cast them to TV, or you can prop up a phone or tablet where you can see. Tons of short videos you can do anytime and a good selection of 30 minute cardio workouts too. My toddler loves to try them with me. All the videos I have ever watched have clean language and motivating instructors.

  • I love my Tracy Anderson DVDs. I have her postpartum workout DVD and I noticed a difference within a few weeks. I also have her mat workout for beginners and her cardio dance for beginners...they're both great. She's a dancer too, so you might enjoy her choreography.

I also love the Bar Method DVD and the Exhale: core fusion DVD series. They're both based on ballet movements (sort of), and they are really fun and effective.
  • I recommend Chalene Johnson (beach body) Turbo Jam. I was at my best fitness doing those workouts and they freaking fly by. You can do anything from a quick 20-30 up to 45-50-60 minute workouts, depending on your time. It's also a wide base from cardio to strength training.
