I love my ergo! Moby wraps are good starter wraps to see if you like using them. If you do end up liking wraps there are a ton of awesome ones but they are pricey
I did not baby wear at all with DS, but I'm going to give it a shot this time around. I need those free hands!
I wanted something that was easy to put on when I wanted it, but just as easy to take off and throw in the diaper bag when I didn't. I'm just not ready to commit to a huge carrier the size if a backpack.
I bought a Baby K'tan wrap. I haven't tried it with anything other than a stuffed animal or swaddled free weight (yep...I so did!) but it seems like it's going to be just what I was looking for.
Dh used the ergo all the time! May I also suggest the California baby slings. Dh had his own brown one. It's great for newborns and super easy to introduce you to baby wearing.
I've also heard awesome things about nattibaby wraps but haven't tried one.
@maltwin1 - LOL at the swaddled free weight. When I was newly pregnant, I bought a very small watermelon, wrapped it in a towel, and strapped it to my stomach for a few hours and walked around. So I am a fan of the inanimate object role play!
It truly depends on your body shape and your preferences. I have personally gotta a few different kinda to try. We have a woven wrap, a bjorn, a k'tan, and a mei tai. We will see which works better for each of us and each baby and go from there.

Twins? You mean two babies? WOW!
Team PURPLE!!
We are excited to meet William Alexander and Harper Abigail in 2015!
The best thing you can do is go to a babywearing international meeting. That way you can see and try the different carriers (they usually have a doll you can use while pregnant). What works best for someone might not work at all for you. My personal favorites right now are a woven wrap for versatility and a KinderPack (similar to an Ergo) for ease of use with a toddler.

After working as a nanny and trying a few different ones, we're going with the lillebaby. We can both wear it and it does not need the infant insert like the ergo does. The resale value in my area for them is insane so if kiddo hates it I will have no trouble selling it either.
I agree w/ WanderingA. We just attended a baby wearing class the other day and the one thing they stressed was to try them on (either with a baby or a heavy enough doll). For newborns, I think a Moby type wrap is the best. They do a great job of cradling the baby like it's in the womb. I have a Moby and I will start with that and then move to a Boba, Tula or Beco (most likely) for a SS carrier.

I just got a Lillebaby carrier. DH tired it on with a weighted doll and said it felt fantastic. It seems to have a nice back support system. It wasn't recommended I try it on because of the size of the bump. I trust DH opinion and he was very happy with the amount of cushioning.
CrazyCornball, what I got from the class is that the mei tai is great, but not so much for a newborn because it isn't as supportive as a Moby type wrap. The k'tan wasn't really raved about because if you don't get EXACTLY the right size, it won't fit. Plus, there is that extra piece of fabric to worry about. There are also woven wraps, but I think even those are better for older babies. Hope this helps!

I started with a moby. I loved it during the newborn phase. It is great to learn how to tighten and a cheap way to see if you like wrapping. I also really liked ring slings when Annabelle was around a couple months old. Woven wraps are my favorite, but I also love our Tula (like an ergo). H uses the ring sling and Tula.
I bought a moby and I am sitting here staring at it going wtf is this long piece of fabric and how the hell am I going to figure this out. I wish I would have read this first.
I watched this like 10 times before I tried it with Adeline but it's actually very simple. Start with the middle marker on your belly and wrap around and across your back so it forms an X. Bring the ends over your shoulders and tuck through the pocket on your belly. Tie off and you're done!

I really loved the K'tan. It was much easier for me to use than the Moby. I also found that it was pretty easy to find the right size. DH really loved the Bjorn, so we just went back and forth between the two.
See if you have a local baby wearers group. They usually have a lending library of carriers so you can try before you buy. Personally I like a Moby or K'tan when they are itty bitty and then an Ergo, but it also depends on the babe. My second hated facing in when she was a NB and needed a sling.

I will third the international babywearing group - ours is having an infant wearing class in a couple of weeks that I plan on going to. I bought a Babylonia tricot slen I believe a few months ago - similar to a boba. I am thinking I want a ring sling as well but want to try one out at the meeting first.

The first time I put DD in the moby it was a mess and she was one unhappy kiddo. A couple weeks later I got up the courage to try again. The videos are great and I got the hang of it pretty quickly! DD was a shitty sleeper and I ended up falling asleep propped up on the couch with her in the moby for 5 weeks. (Some how I have fond memories of this now but at the time it was very much a FML situation).
I'm in the south and all the fabric of something like the Moby makes me instantly hot. I used the Peanut Shell while in Europe with my friend and her boys. I carried her 6 month old around for two weeks in one and loved it. Walking with him sleeping, bottle feeding, sitting up at a table, you name it.
Re: Baby wearing
I prefer a woven wrap .. These can get pricey.
I have the Infantino Flip carrier and it's comfortable and soft .. Not expensive
I hear good things about the Ergobaby
I also have the baby Bjorne .. I barley use it.
