how do you BTDT moms deal with teeth and breastfeeding? Little one just got his first tooth (6 months old) and right now it's slightly annoying. Does it get better? Should I expect him to chomp on it one day? Any advice?
If and when he bits you, have him unlatch and give him a firm NO, I had to do this probably 2 or 3 times one feeding and then he got it and hasn't bitten me since.
I've BF 3 kids with teeth. The first two did bite, and I had to pull them away and stop nursing when it happened. A couple times of immediate removal from the breast was all it took for them to learn not to bite. Luckily this LO has never bitten me!
Thanks all! I notice when I nurse him to sleep I start to feel the scraping- I'm guessing it's because he's not feeding at this point but just comforting himself. Hoping it gets better!
If (or before!) the scraping becomes uncomfortable, try changing positions so that the teeth don't continue to rub the same spot. That's what helped me! I would alternate between football, cradle, and side lying. And also put some milk on any raw spots to help heal.
