Stretchmarks Already?

I'm 16 weeks 5 days, and I've started to notice the beginnings of a couple of stretchmarks. I know that I'm prone to them, so they were inevitable. However, I'm surprised that they're already starting.

Has anyone else started to get them? What are you using to moisturize? I'm wondering if I should start using something other than coconut oil.

Re: Stretchmarks Already?

  • Definitely normal to get them early on in pregnancy. I started to notice them around 25 weeks with DS. I would suggest coconut oil or a really dense creamy body butter to keep them nice and hydrated and comfortable. When they itch, it's awful.

I am already marked up bad from my first one.

Now, I wait for my stretch marks to get stretch marks.
Oy. I've got some awesome ones from when I lost lots of weight in college. I think my tummy may look like a highway map when all is said and done!
  • I've been diligently slathering on unscented paraben-free thick lotion, mostly for the itch but hoping it might help with the stretch marks. However, I'm told by doctors, nurses, & BTDT moms that stretch marks are inevitable. My friends have tried low to high end product but nothing "works"

If your stretch marks are pink, any hydrating lotion might help diminish the scarring. If they're white, it's scarred.. It's there for good

  • I've got tiger stripes from my last one.  The good news is that they are totally worth it.

  • I don't have any yet from this pregnancy, but with my first I think I started getting them at something like 8 weeks!

  • 17w4 and definitely have them. Had some before but there are definitely new toger stripes on the belly.
  • Try bio oil and motherlove belly balm. Both are super moisturizing and help with the stretching. I didn't escape them completely with my ds, but it helped with the itching for sure!

  • 18 weeks 5 days....FTM none yet. I would love to recommend the oil of Olay 24 hour moisture body wash. It smells great and has a thick consistency & keeps dry skin super moisturized!!

I'm using that, coconut oil & regular palmer's cocoa butter
  • Not on my belly yet but on my breasts! They itch like crazy!

  • I use Biotherm Biovergetures Stretch Marks Prevention and Reduction Cream - it works great.  I had some stretch marks from my last miscarriage and its even taking those ones away while my bump is growing this time around.

Its worth the price in my opinion.

  • Yay for tiger stripes....lol I kid. For sure lube up but I'm sure it only helps so much.

Interesting about the bio oil, and thanks for sharing. I used it for a bit with my first pregnancy and there were no issues. I just did a Google search and it basically said the amount absorbed by your skin would be minimal and not a major risk. If there are safer options though, of course I'd choose those. I'm using the motherlove right now and I do prefer it. It's not cheap but it's so thick and is amazing when you're super itchy and the weather gets cooler.

  • Thanks ladies! Glad to know others are starting to get them too. I'll look into some of these suggestions. I know they're inevitable (for me anyway), but at least I can try to minimize them and not be itchy.
  • Mamma mio tummy rub butter was recommended to me and I love it. It's not cheap, but it is smells so lovely and softens your skin all day. I've been using since 14 weeks!

  • 16 weeks here and I have very light ones, almost like white or lighter than my skin, on my hips and sides of my boobs. I've had the ones on my hips since I was a teen when I was much bigger than I am now. They faded a little as I lost weight but never went away completely.
  • My breasts filled out like balloons within a week of finding out I was pregnant. So, now I have red stretch marks across the bottom of both breasts. Yes, I did moisturize them well during that week. Didn't matter.

I've been lucky everywhere else... so far :|

  • With my first I had been religious about keeping my belly moisturized. I shouldn't have bothered. Right at 30 weeks I woke up one morning to find that my butt had developed horrific stretch marks overnight. I never did get any on my stomach with either of my pregnancies.
  • I'm too lazy to moisturise with body butters. I simply squirt baby oil onto my skin in the shower. The warm running water spreads it all over and I step out with skin already moisturised. It's cheap, stops the itching for me and I get to smell like baby all day!
  • Hi I am also prone to stretch marks but I am using an oil three times a day that helps the skin expand with the growth. As your skin needs lots of nourishment to keep up with the growth. I am using weleda stretch mark oil which is natural and has a soothing smell of lavender. Rose oil is also great and can be used while pregnant :)
  • I thought they were genetic. My mom has zero after 3 kids so I was confident. Mine started appearing at 36 weeks and I got several. A huge bummer but worth it.

  • What do you guys recommend to help with the itching? I figure preventing them is a lost cause, but I'm SO ITCHY.

  • My skin is so stretched out from my twin pregnancy, I haven't even begun to stretch it yet. :)

  • With my first pregnancy I thought I was stretch mark free and I was bragging to my mother-in-law at 7 months. Little did I know she wasn't telling me that my lower stomach was covered in them. I just couldn't see them. I now have tons on my stomach and thighs and I'm not going to stress about adding more.
  • I used Palmers stretch mark lotion while pregnant with my first 2 and do not have any stretch marks. Will
Be using it with this one also.
  • I haven't noticed any yet, but I'm super pale so I might not see them until they get prominent. I have some on my knees and hips from growth spurts but they are just a shade whiter (it's possible!) than the surrounding skin. I've been using coconut oil periodically. I haven't had any itchiness yet, but if I do I think I'll try out one of the body butters you guys recommended!

As for genetics, I got my skin from my dad's side. Unfortunately his sister didn't have kids and he was a 13 pound baby, so I don't think my grandmas stretchmark story would be typical if she was alive to ask.
