Anyone else's doctor recommend not having the anatomy scan??? I had an appt. yesterday and at the end he said he'll see me back in a month (ill be 20-21 weeks at my next appt.). I asked him if that will be when we schedule our anatomy scan and he said it's up to me but from a medical stand point there's no reason behind it. It can cause anxiety over nothing and there's nothing beneficial from having multiple screenings. I already didn't do the 13 week scan because he said basically the same thing. All I've had is my dating ultrasound and another when I spotted. Am I being unreasonable that I want to have the anatomy scan done? I mainly dont want to spend $100+ for a 10min elective gender scan when my insurance covers this anatomy scan!
Re: No anatomy scan??
I'm just trying to assuage any fears you have of not having one, but I absolutely think you have the right to one if you want it. I would insist on one if my doctor didn't automatically schedule one, but mainly I just love seeing the baby. And it can give you peace of mind if you need it.
Your doctor's job is to make you feel comfortable with this process, among other things.
If you want one done it is your right to have it done. You're absolutely right, you shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for an elective scan when you can have one done that is covered by insurance. Plus side to finding out the sex, they'll also check the make sure all of LO's vital organs are developing and working efficiently.
I'm not sure why he thinks there is no medical point behind it? I just had mine done yesterday and discovered that my fluid is already a little low, but all his vital organs are working properly. Now we have a plan in place to try to help raise my fluid levels, and a follow up ultrasound as well to check progress.
I would insist on the ultrasound if you want it, your body, your baby. Do what makes YOU comfortable!
In your doctor's defense he said it was up to you, so if you want one I'd call today and get it scheduled. However, I do think there is merit to doing one. They check to make sure baby is growing, all the organs, and where the placenta is etc.

Per the ACOG:
How many ultrasound exams will I have during my pregnancy?
You may have at least one standard exam during your pregnancy. This ultrasound exam usually is performed at about 16–20 weeks of pregnancy. Some women may have an ultrasound exam in the first trimester of pregnancy. If a problem occurs during pregnancy, such as bleeding or pelvic pain, ultrasound may be used to help find the cause.
