Dizziness when I'm standing?

Sometimes when I'm standing doing chores or whatever I just get so dizzy out of no where!! It just started about a week ago. I'm worried that might have preeclampsia. Ive been kinda depressed and stressed out these past couple months and high blood pressure runs in my family too. I just wanna know if I'm freaking out for no reason or if I should be concerned.

  • I think you need to drink tons and tons of water. I have found water to be the cure for most of my side effects. How much are you drinking right now!

^^ This. This will happen to me and I KNOW it's because I need to increase my water intake. Drink up, woman!

  • I'm not sure where you live but in canada most pharmacies in major cities have blood pressure machines by the med dispensaries. If you're very worried, I'd suggest making a trip to one and checking your blood pressure.

Also, what pps have said, water is fantastic! I've found, being pregnant and living in an arid climate and exercising that I need to drink close to 4 litres a day.
  • I would go get your blood pressure checked out just to see what's going on. Signs of preeclampsia high blood pressure usually include a severe headache or floaters/flashes of lights in your vision. If you have any swelling that is also a sign. Dizziness usually is not a sign, but you can never be too careful.
  • I have had it several times too. It's usually followed by shaking, cold sweats, and loss of hearing, I feel like I'm on the verge of passing out but I never actually pass out and it passes and quickly as it came. My doc thinks it's either low blood sugar or a heart issue. She recommended I eat something when I feel it coming on to see if it helps. If that doesn't work she is sending me to have my heart checked.

  • I've had the same thing with the dizziness and passing out feeling for the past week! I actually had it today! My Dr told me to up my water intake, sit down right away and if I'm able to lay on my left side for awhile do so! I don't have high blood pressure or preeclampsia! I hope everything works out for you! If it keeps happening I'd call your dr and see if you can get in to have tests run to see what's going on.
  • First, I would call your OB.

If you are only getting dizzy upon standing, it could actually be your BP is dropping significantly with changes in posture.

Also, I have heard of positional vertigo in pregnancy. If you have this, look for a PT that treats BPPV. No meds needed, just a skilled therapist to reposition crystals in your ear.

  • This happens to me whenever I grocery shop. I get dizzy, hot, my eyes go blurry, and I have to sit down.  Increase your water intake and make sure you are eating enough. Also powerade or gatorade for electrolytes, that's everything my doctor told me.  As for high BP I'd get that checked out by your doc or at the pharmacy machines.

  • I experienced this (but I actually fainted) at the beginning of my second trimester. So, yes all PP are right, drink more water, take it easy, eat more small snacks & lay on your left side...but please call your obgyn & have them check it out. In my case, my uterus was pressing on a nerve which cut off my circulation even though it just seemed like I was dehydrated & had low blood sugar.

I drink water all day though refill my Orlando health cup at least 8 times a day. Since this started I've been drinking more thinking I was dehydrated but my pee isn't any weird colors or anything like that
  • Thanks so much for the advice :) I'll tell my OB next week when I see him.
