Baths...overrated right! ;-)

I'm just curious...Brooke has had two baths in her 3 weeks of life. I feel bad that it is only two. With DD1, my husband gave her a bath just about every day (most without soap). The difference now is that I'm on my own at bedtime so it feels almost impossible to wrangle the toddler and give the baby a bath.

I'm not neglecting her right?? Right? How often do you bathe your LO?

  • My LO is two weeks and his umbilical cord just fell off today so he has only had sponge baths. But I plan to bathe him tomorrow. His skin is so dry even with oil and lotion I don't think he will be bathed as much as xDS1 either

  • DH is obsessed with giving LO baths, but I've been able to convince him every 3 days is sufficient. He likes to so it before "bedtime".

  • Oh, but If I was doing it alone it would be more like every 5 days I bet! Especially since it's getting cold here.

  • Yes I agreed with you- I think for lost newborns they are not as necessary as for toddlers! Our LO is also three weeks and we have given her two baths- and just with warm water. Her skin is still a little on the dry side, I'd be worried about drying it out
Further with more baths. She still smells soooooo good too just like a newborn should smell!

  • Same here, pretty much impossible with the toddler. DH has bathed him three times. He was one month old yesterday.

  • DS is a month old and has had 1 sponge bath and 2 immersion baths. We are happy if he gets a bath a week. We do use a warm, wet washcloth to wipe down folds at bedtime though.

  • I can't describe how much DDS hates baths and she's only had 2 sponge and 1 in the tub. All times she's screamed bloody murder the whole time. If she's not dirty or smelly I'm sticking with 1x a week.

  • DS hates them so I tend to go every other bath day of the girls for him and they're every 2-3 days so he's basically getting one a week.

DD#2 just started liking baths so she plays in there everyday and DD#3 LOVES baths and water but I only wash them on 'bath days'

I'm also a proud Auntie to a crazy little girl, her brand new baby sister, a little man on his way in the next month, and a sweet little mister we will miss forever!!!
  • Twice a week maybe? We thought about every other day because it does help soothe dd before bedtime but it's cold here and getting really dry so I don't want to dry her skin out.
We are so excited to grow our family!

  • A is 3w3d and she's had one sponge bath and two immersion baths. I wanted to give her a bath last night but DH wanted to wait one more day. I got really grumpy about this (thanks, wine) bc her skin is just like his (very fair and on the dry side) and I felt like I don't know how to take care of her skin. Or her blonde hair for that matter.

  • I guess I'm SS. We do baths every other day. Little G loves them.

  • They told us once a week in the hospital but I'm not sure how long they meant that for. His skin is still peeling but it's not dry skin, it's from being in the amniotic fluid for so long (that didn't happen with DD so I asked the ped).

We bathed DD no more than every other day, still do, although getting that much in is a struggle. I don't know how days suddenly become 18 hours when you have kids but they do. DD loves her baths and will be in there all the livelong day so we have to commit to either a long bath or being really firm with her and neither of those things are very appealing these daysszzzz....

  • My filthy disgusting toddler of a son only gets a bath once or twice a week. The baby is 3w2d and has had one sponge bath and one real bath. He will probably get a bath whenever Dirty Boy gets one.

The one bath DS2 had calmed him down so much- I was amazed.
  • DS is OK with baths until I have to sit him up to wash his back. I have a hard time keeping him steady while he's wet and crying so he only gets bathed about once a week so far. Last time he really stank like old milk by the time I got around to bathing him. I should probably not let it get there next time.
  • DS gets super cheesy pits, which I can hardly get to because he clenches his arms. Do you just man handle them during bath time or what?

  • Aubrey is 2 weeks old today and she had her second bath tonight.. :) My older kids only get one every 2-3 days-- ds2 has really bad eczema so I try not to bathe him too much! :)
  • DD is just over 3 weeks and has only had 3 baths.

  • @alfibet Yeah, she did have a bit of a stump. At her 6 week appointment we asked our pedi about it because it wasn't coming off and we wanted to give her regular baths. He said it should be more than ready and that we should give her a regular bath and try and take it out ourselves. We gave her a bath, it didn't just come out, so after we ended up getting some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip and working it out. It sort of popped off and a perfect little belly button appeared!
