Over reacting? Light brown spotting

Really sorry if this is anywhere else on here (not trying to p*ss anyone off) but I wondered if you thought I was over reacting or if I should worry? I've had light brown spotting for a week and tonight I've got period pains for the 1st time. Im 11 weeks and my scan isnt until 18th Nov. Problem is if I call the midwife she'll just tell me to rest anyway? So im sat at home having a little panic.... Thanks for reading X

Re: Over reacting? Light brown spotting

  • I am sorry you are experiencing this. I feel like I keep getting told that spotting can be normal, so if it is light, like you said, try to stay calm. I would call tomorrow morning and try to talk to someone. That way they can either calm your nerves or have you come in for testing. Sending positive thoughts your way.

  • Yes it can be normal. Brown is old blood and can be from anything. I'd take it easy make sure you drink lots of water. If it's still there you can always call and ask this week.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I kept getting told that the brown spotting was normal but than it turned to blood I went to the er and there was no heart beat baby stopped growing at 8 weeks (I'm supposed to be 11 weeks today I found this out Monday morning) I don't mean to scare you but I got told way to many times on here that it was normal so I didn't worry too much, there's nothing you can do if you're miscarrying or anyway to prevent it but it'd be better to now than to wait weeks to find out.
  • I will be 12 weeks tomorrow and started spotting this morning (which is why I came on the bump now) . Thankfully I'm scheduled for my ultrasound today. I'm freaking out but at least I will have some info shortly. I will be devastated if there is bad news. We tried for so long and went through IVF. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.
  • Update: NT scan was great. Sign of relief. I feel very sorry for those who do not have positive outcomes.wishing everyone the best.
  • I had some of that yesterday and panicked. My doctor said that as long as it want filling a pad every hour that I didn't need to go to the er or anything. My next ultrasound is in four days and I know I won't truly stop worrying till then. I hope everything is ok with your baby and that time passes quickly till the 18th.
  • It can be normal, but if you need reassurance or you feel it's not right and it's stressing you out then go to er or doctor an get checked out.
  • Same thing happened to me about a week ago. Doctor told me to relax and observe; she said (like everyone else has mentioned) that brown blood is old blood and to worry if it turns bright red with period pains. Either way, it's terrifying; I know. It also might be your body's way of telling you to slow down. Call your doctor in the morning to get some next steps. Good luck!
  • I had brown spotting a few weeks in a row. Like others have said, it can be normal or it can lead to a problem. If you are panicking then go to the ER or urgent care to ease your mind. Otherwise wait until your appointment.
  • You're not overreacting. Lay down and rest if you can and up your water intake. Hopefully it will stop. I'll be thinking about you!

When I was around 9 weeks this happened to me. My doctor didn't seem concerned at all. The brown coloring is from old blood. Could be left over implantation bleeding that your body is just now getting rid of through discharge. There are a ton of blood vessels in the uterus and when your newly pregnant they are very sensitive. Cramping is also normal, it's the uterus making room for baby. I was told to only worry if you're experiencing unbearable pain and bright red bleeding. Worrying will only make it worse, try to relax! To put your mind at ease you could always call your dr office and speak with a nurse. Hope this helps!

Hope it stops soon, feel better.
  • I had some spotting at 8 weeks, after my hubby and I had sex.  My doctor said that there is a lot of increased blood flow in your cervix at this point, and any agitation can cause some spotting.  She also warned I may see some spotting after my Pap.  It's totally normal and I've had good blood work and ultrasounds!

Hope you feel better soon… I understand how nerve wracking it is!
  • It if makes you feel better you should call your doctor. Also just rest all day and drink a ton of water. Keep us posted!
