Nose bleed

This is a second time this week that I've had a nose bleed from the same nostril. First time I was able to stop it within 10 minutes. Today I started bleeding at work and it had taken me nearly 40 minutes to stop the bleeding which was heavy. Does anyone else get nose bleed? I know that it is common during pregnancy so I'm wondering if it's something I should ignore and live with or get it checked with my doctor.

Re: Nose bleed

  • I get them all the time! It started in the middle of my 2nd trimester. :P it's pretty annoying! When I'm not bleeding, I'm still totally congested even though I'm not sick at all.

  • Yeah I don't get nose bleeds exactly but that doesn't mean it isn't still coming out in one form or another. I'm finally gonna mention this to my midwife tomorrow, gotta find something to talk about for 30 minutes! I feel like I cough up a lot of questionable blood, sorry really gross. I know its pretty common to be congested/have nose bleeds but couldn't hurt to mention it and ask for advice. All I can say is get a humidifier going to keep your nasal passages from getting g dry!
  • I've had occasional nose bleeds during both of my pregnancies. I was told that it is normal but I've never had one that lasted for more than 10 minutes. Heavy bleeding for 40 minutes seems extreme, so I would definitely mention it to your doctor just to be safe.

  • Be careful about the length of your nose bleeds. At work we call an ambulance after 20 mins of continual bleeding. We've actually had a teen girl pass out after 15 mins. It's rare but does happen (I work at a pool so nosebleeds happen on a daily basis).
  • I get them about 2 or 3 times a day, always the same side. Doctor said its normal as the blood vessels are more swollen and therefore break easier. I've been using saline spray every night and it helps a lot in terms of frequency and how long they last. Haven't had one that lasts that long though. Hope they don't continue!

  • I've been getting them recently too and I've never had them before in my life. I'm using the saline spray as well. I think I'm going to have to go get a humidifier.

As other pp have said 40 mins is a LONG time. I would mention it.

  • Thank you for the input ladies. I will mention it to my OB.
