I have and they prescribed it, but it's pregnancy category C and not many studies have been done on it so I'm just trying to see if others have taken it.
Has anyone taken Imitrex while pregnant? Ugh terrible headaches, but nervous to take!
I agree with @saltbox40 definitely talk to your doctor. I had terrible migraines before my first pregnancy and during the first trimester of that pregnancy. My OB prescribed a medicine that was acetaminophen based. I believe it was called Fioricet.
If you aren't comfortable taking a Cat. C drug I would talk to your Dr about alternatives. Additionally if your screen name is your actual email adress you should consider changing it, the interwebz are full of crazies!
I take Imitrex while not pregnant, but not during pregnancy. It's been associated with vascular development problems, and that was enough to persuade me to find alternatives. Make sure you are getting enough magnesium. If you just need to sleep it off, try Tylenol PM or Benadryl.
Another here who takes it regularly when not pregnant, but never while pregnant. If it makes you feel better, my doctor did tell me during my last pregnancy that if my migraines persisted she would be fine with me taking it. I am just not personally comfortable with it.
Migraine sufferer here. They were really bad during my first trimester. I went to a walk in clinic, my OBGYN and my neurologist for help. They all said there was nothing approved for pregnant women beyond Tylenol and fluids. So I'm surprised a doctor prescribed imitrex for you. I would get a second opinion.
H is a neurologist and wouldn't recommend Imitrex for a pg woman - the benefit doesn't outweigh the risk since there are other options. Sadly one of the options is just waiting it out
I have never taken it during pregnancy but after much deliberation and with my neurologist's approval I took it while BFing DD after a few months on beta blockers, which are the most BF-friendly preventative drugs for migraines (totally ineffective for me). For me, it was the right move. I really feel for you. I would recommend talking to a neurologist as well if you haven't already...see if they have any ideas up their sleeve.
