My Dogs are making me crazy!

I have two large dogs who I love very much. The knew that I was pregnant right in the beginning. I knew because they weren't jumping on me any more. So the past few weeks, Becksy, my 90lb German Short Haired Pointer has not left my side. He has to be touching me or trying to sit on my lap in some capacity at all times. I got out of the shower yesterday and he was sitting on the bath mat waiting for me. I was folding laundry last night in the living room and I had to barricade myself with laundry baskets so I had room to fold and stack the laundry. He sat there and cried. My other dog isn't as bad as Becksy. As I am sitting on my bed right now typing this, he has his head resting on my ankles. Does anyone know how I can get this behavior to stop. He is normally is a very well behaved well trained dog. But I am going to lose my mind.

He doesn't sound like he is being bad he just knows something is up. I will trade you my 16 week old puppy who poops and pees in the house and bites me all the time lol

I wish I knew a way to help! My dog has no freaking clue I'm pregnant, the other day he bounded right across my stomach. Fortunately, he's only a 14lb mini doxie.

My 105lb boxer/pitbull does the same thing to me but I don't mind... he's protective n sweet n although sometimes I almost trip over him lol I welcome his loving... I think it just shows how sweet he's gonna b when baby boy is here. GL, n hope u can start to enjoy ur dogs sweet reaction to ur pregnancy :-)

I'm having the exact same experience with my 2-year-old lab, but in addition to being extremely clingy, he is also starting to get jealous, misbehaving, and being very over-protective of me. DH and I can't even hug or touch without him getting super jealous and either barking at us or trying to shove his way between us. He's also stared misbehaving and testing boundaries in out of the ordinary ways, like stealing and eating stuff off of the counter, which he has never done before. I think he knows something is up, and that it's something that's going to take attention away from him.

It's getting really annoying, but we're trying to just focus on being firm in discipline, reinforcing the training he already has, and keeping his routine normal. I've read that you don't want to console them by giving them extra attention because you won't be able to keep that level of attention up when the baby gets here, which will make the transition even harder for them. That's the only semi-advice I have, I mostly just wanted to say that I feel your pain.

I also feel your pain. I have two that do the same my male is well behaved he will respect my space if asked. My female... Ugh she is horrid constantly in my face touching me looking at me swallows if i swallow moves when i move gets where i am going before me and i dont think its outbof concern i think she is just nosey. so if she comes to close i shoo her away and say back up and keep doing it when she passes my comfort zone. Now i just have to move my hand and she will back up

My pup is constantly by my side too. He was like this before I got pregnant (he just loves to be around us all the time) but now it is even worse. I don't really have amy advice, I just deal with it. I think its sweet.

Is Becksy crate trained? Fry, my 120lb Rottie is being similarly clingy. I indulge it to a point but he has some "Fry time" every day where he gets to chill in his crate for a while.

He's got a high denning instinct so he loves his crate. I generally throw a stuffed kong in there with him as well. Seems to help remind him that he can be in the same area as me without being on top of me.

DH has also taken over most of the walking duties so that he has a chance to bond with the goofball too.

The two things I always recommend to my pregnant dog training clients is to give your dogs plenty of exercise and structured training time. This is even more important for shepherds who have a natural protective instinct, or working dogs like labs.

It's normal for dogs to act differently when you are pregnant, my dog started marking in the house again. I bumped up his training sessions again (I had ben slacking off for quite a while) and he stopped within a week or two. I'm not saying you have to go crazy, but just try going over their commands for 15 minutes a day, or even 15 minutes a few times a week. The more you have time to do, the better. You don't even have to teach them anything new, just brush up on old commands and exercise their minds.

Routine helps out a ton when dogs are facing big changes like this.

Becksy was rescued from a very bad situation. He was kept in a crate with his sister 23 hours a day in the same crate before he was rescued. So we don't crate him because of the trauma. We have over 2 acres of land that the can run and run and run. We had an electric fence installed when we got them, they get plenty of exercise chasing each other and all the wild life. I have been babysitting my niece a few days a week since she was a few months old. Both dogs absolutely adore her. She is 20 months old and can play a little rough with them, but they just lay there and let her do their thing. I guess the other day I was frustrated when I posted this "rant". Both dogs make me smile a hundred times a day and I am sure when Rocco comes they will love him just as much.

I always love to hear when rescues find a good home. Makes me super sad they had to endure that though! Fry's a rescue too. At 3 we are his third owners and it absolutely breaks my heart! He is the sweetest dog, many a bit unaware of how big he actually is but his biggest pleasure in life if meeting new people and new dogs (think Doug from Up). I just don't get how people can hurt such loving creatures!

I am dealing with the same thing with my 80 lbs American Bulldog/lab mix. She has recently decided to cry at every moment she is not in our space. She just wants to lay right next to us...now that i think of it maybe more me than my hubby. She was never a whinner and now its just redic I can't get her to stop and I am about to wring her neck. I mean we let her in, but she has to sleep downstairs and that is now an issue when she used to take herself downstairs.

We had gone on vaca and boarded our other dog, Fenway. When we returned to pick her up the owner of the kennel told me that Becks had been with them for over a week because there wasn't any room at the shelter. He was depressed, not eating or sleeping...until Fenway got there. They became instant BFFs. She asked me if there was anyway I could adopt him because he would have a better quality of life. How could you say no to that? Best decision we ever made. He helped me clean the house today. And now he is laying next to me with his head on my belly.

This made me tear up! I don't rescue adult dogs or ones from the pound but I do tend to get a lot of dogs from a breeder and that's pretty much the same thing!
