Eczema?

So I took LO to the pedi because she was spitting up like it was going out of style and that she'd started being crazy constipated, while I was there I was going to mention that her belly button looked like she had a hernia.

So kiddo has acid reflux, which I figured, maybe a milk protein allergy, we're waiting and seeing. Constipation, speaks for itself. An umbilical hernia, it reduces, so we just watch it. And eczema!!!

I thought she had freaking baby acne!! I thought I was irritating her skin with baby wash, couldn't find anything that wasn't making it worse, so I started using just water!! He gave us hydrocortisone for her eczema, freaking lactulose until she's cleaned out, and recommended soothe drops for her reflux before trying zantac.

Anyways, everything I try for her eczema is making it spread! I've only dressed her in cotton. I've been using aveeno lotion to help apply her hydrocortisone. I have dreft. Does anyone have any ideas??
If anyone has any personal experience is love to hear! I have absolutely none!! :) thank y'all for reading all this!

Re: Eczema?

  • Maybe try a different detergent besides dreft? That has perfumes in it, so get something free and clear. Worth a shot.

  • I would actually not use lotion. Try what the doctor recommended, of course, but my cousin uses auqafor on her baby for his eczema and it helps more than the lotion ever did and her poor lo has it so bad all over his body. Good luck with everything. It's hard being a mom and having to help the kiddos through all of these things.
  • My dd has eczema everywhere like PP mentioned and Aquafor has helped. Our pedi suggested it to me. It helps with mine too actually so thats a plus! I would also second a different detergent. I use arm and hammer but I have seen many people use a regular free and clear detergent.

Also for the reflux, do you hold her upright after feeding? I have to hold dd up after feeding her for 15 to 20 minutes or else she will spit up everything.

  • My dd has eczema. We use aquafor on her. For laundry detergent I use All free and clear, and no fabric softener.
When she was really young we had to bathe her with Dove extra sensitive soap. We tried all kinds and that was the best we found for her.
Another thing was perfume. When people would hold her when she was a baby and they were wearing perfume, it was a guarantee that it would cause a bad flair up. Last thing make sure baby wipes (if you use them) are sensitive or perfume and dye free.
I know every child is different but these were things that helped keep my dd's manageable. Good luck!

  • Thanks everybody!! :)
@crystangel I'll definitely look into a different detergent. I didn't think about the fragrance in it. That will probably help loads!!
@amom2four I haven't tried aquafor, I'll grab some of that too! I've tried all the brands gifted to us, plus all the fragrances they came in!! DD1 is 16 months old and I'm still using bottles gifted to her!! :) but of course no aquafor!! Lol it's hard when they're hurting and I don't know how to help!! Her little cry is so pitiful, but she's been such a little trooper. And to think I bitched about carrying her in my belly sometimes!!
@ashleyb1114 she basically cannot lay down! Haha poor kid! I'm so sorry your DD has eczema. I've worked in daycares and that is the only experience I have with this. So this is totally foreign to me. I'll absolutely try everything y'all suggested!! :)
  • Try Burt's Bee, California Baby, or Earth Momma Angel Baby wash. All free & clear laundry soap worked great with DS's sensitive skin. We still use it 4 years later. Target Up & up diapers & their sensitive wipes worked great for him too.
  • DS had this problem and we used everyday Shea baby lotion and the body wash. It cleared up within a week. You have to keep using it though for it to stay away, and we used any fragrance free detergent. You can get the lotion and wash at Sprouts, online, or I'm sure whole foods has it. Whatever you do use, make sure its dimethicone and fragrance free. Dimethicone thins out the skin. God luck mama! You'll get it under control.
  • We have tried every formula under the sun for DS awful reflux. We tried Zantac and the gas drops... Neither has helped. Then we found Similac for Spit-up and it has made a world of difference. No more reflux. Except now he is so constipated that we have to use suppositories and apple juice. So... No advice really. But I'm really sorry and I feel your pain!

    Apple juice???
  • @Smallllmin‌ oh my god!! I feel your pain! We're using similac sensitive, but she's so constipated that we've been having to give her lactulose! She takes it like a champ, but her belly cramps and you can hear it rumbling and gurgling!! :(
@CUBBIESMAMA3‌ I'll be going nearby a whole foods this week, I'll have a week. I do have a question though. And I hope this isn't stupid, but when the pedi told me I was so surprised I didn't ask anything! Lol will LO have this forever? We just keep it under control?
  • Lol. No, DS has already out grown it for the most part, and he's four. He just gets really dry skin on his legs when the weather changes. His case was pretty mild though. How bad is it? from what you said, it sounds pretty mild. Its a case by case basis, but I would just use the lotion and wash and see how it goes. I'm no doctor, but it sounds like you can make it go away pretty quick. I'll take a pic of the lotion when I get home. Its all we use for DD. We never even tried the other stuff. Just keep an eye on it and give it time. We used it on DS for a good six months and I rarely have to put it on him now. Its all in how your LO reacts to it.

  • @CUBBIESMAMA3‌ that's good!! I'm glad your DS doesn't have much problem any more. My LOs does seem super mild so I'm thinking that a few tweaks here and there will help get hers cleared up. Thanks for your answer! :)

No problem. :-) I'll be adding the pic son. My DS took off with the lotion and I need to find it. Lol
