Re: Christmas Reminder

  • I was just talking to DH about this yesterday! I said I plan to put the decorations up right away after Thanksgiving, (we dont go christmas crazy in our house but the usual decor) that way we have plenty of time to enjoy everything. Bc day after/wknd after christmas its coming down. I dont want to risk not doing it right away and then have little one a couple weeks early with all the decorations still up. In that case id prob have christmas decorations still up in Feb!

  • I think my decorations are going to consist of a wreath, candle, nativity, and Christmas tree, so I'm not too worried about undecorating. As long as they're down by Valentine's Day, I think it's fine.
  • My husband is over 6 feet tall so, he has to help with most of the decorating anyways. Also, he is the one that pushes for the Full Bright Shiny Glitter and Loud Noises Everywhere Set Up. I wanted to put our cute 4foot apartment sized tree up last year and he complained that we needed a full sized one to put in the front room of our new house. lol he makes me feel like the Grinch.

Our compromise last year was that if he could find a good deal on black friday this year, he could buy a full sized tree. I am terrified he will bring back a 12 footer that spins, twinkles and pukes out Christmas cheer!

As long as its a 29.99 special haha!!!

  • I normally put up my tree after Thanksgiving dinner. I don't watch sports much, so while everyone is doing that im usually hauling boxes out of my storage closet. I said to DH the other day, "How am I going to get the tree up and decorated this year? I hope I will have some help"...  Hint hint.

"I'm sure someone will help you do it". Was his response.

I didn't even think about how much bigger I will be, or possibly recovering with a newborn when I have to take everything down and pack it all away!   Hopefully by then DH will realize I'm pregnant and shouldn't be straining too much. ( Something he often forgets)

  • I already told my hubby we are taking our decorations down the day after Christmas this year. I do not want them up till MARCH! We have a two year old who is really starting to understand it, so I can't not do it for her!
  • No tree here, either.  We don't have space in our little apartment, it's probably in the way back of our packed storage unit anyway, plus I just don't want to deal with it since I'm the one that puts up/takes down the decorations.

If I can find our wreath & nativity scene, that'll probably be all we do.  I'm a little bummed, because I feel like DS is at the age where he is kind of starting to get it & I'm going to feel guilty if he doesn't get that Christmas "experience" at home because of the move & the new baby.  :(

Crap - I think I'm gonna have to go find a little table-top sized tree now.
Myles was so pumped about the baby . . . until he figured out he'd have to share all his toys!!!

  • That is what MH is for. We usually put decorations up the Friday or Saturday after Christmas and keep them up until around New Year's. We will probably take them down right after Christmas this year though. But, yea, MH can do that if I can't.

  • We will be starting our decorating in two weeks. A little earlier then normal but we really go all out both inside and outside. Lights will not be turned on until after Thanksgiving. Since the doctors keep going back and forth on their plans i figure having the decorating done is one less stress for me and the LO.
  • DD was a February baby - With her we decorated right after thanksgiving and undecorated before New Years. Usually our stuff stays up until New Years Day, then we undecorate the next weekend. That should be good enough this time, too :)
  • our outdoor lights are going up in the next week or two, in the interest of having them up while i can still handle a ladder AND before the snow flies.  we won't be plugging them in till after thanksgiving though.  they can stay up until next spring for all i care.  lol

  • I'm a big stickler about separating the holidays. I won't put up my Christmas decorations until December 1st, and will take them down within a week after New Years.
This year, I'm doing minimal decorations; just a wreath on the door, some white lights out on the porch of our apartment. My DH has a Christmas village he likes to put up every year, but we left all the houses in storage back in CO.

  • Confession, I don't care if the decorations stayed up until February...I love Christmas! RCS is scheduled for January 20 so I am pretty sure my husband will demand the tree is down before then....but I would love it if it was there for pics with baby when he came home....although I'm sure people would think I'm weird when I posted the pics lol!

  • @britt1406- my dd was only 6 months last year so the tree wasn't a problem, she will be 17 months this christmas...I already know I'm going to lose my mind trying to keep her from toppling it over! I could put it in the center of the living/dining room (where I want to put it) or in between the two couches making it more difficult for her...my moms recommending the latter...we shall see!
  • None of our Christmas decorations will come down before this baby arrives (but I'm also due 12/28).
Confession: I found out I was pregnant with DS1 on Christmas day, and our decorations that year didn't come down until mid-Feb because of my first tri exhaustion/sickness.

laughed out loud literally at work!! If you find a "tree" that does that please by all means pictures and the website that you get it from.

  • You know that scene in Elf, when he launches himself at the Christmas tree? I have visions of my cats doing that if we get a tree. DH desperately wants one but I'm not convinced yet.

This is how I feel about my 9 month old. Plus, no ornaments are safe - he will eat them.

  • I told DH it's all on him this year. I will decorate the mantle and put out stockings. I will buy and light a pine scented candle. That's it.

We have a fake tree in the attic, and he can either bring that down or buy a SMALL real one (he likes huge trees, and normally so do I), but either way he's responsible for clean up. No way am I crawling under the tree to water it, nor will I vacuum up needles while full term. Same goes for outside lights - I will put some up in the next few weeks if he wants, but I am not taking them down.

  • I have a confession about something that happened 3 years ago. My DD was about 21 months at the time and DS was 5 months. We had a real tree as we do every year. DH has a meltdown putting the tree up every year out of frustration but this year it went up relatively easy.

So a few days later I am sitting on the couch with DS nursing him and DD is playing near the tree but not touching it. Out of nowhere the tree fell and landed right on her. Several ornaments crashed to the floor and broke. I put DS down immediately and got DD out and onto the couch. Not a SCRATCH thank god! This experience was much more traumatic for me than for her.

I managed to get all the glass cleaned up before DH got home. Needless to say we tie up our tree every year now whether we think it needs it or not. Thankfully DD does not appear to have any last trauma from the experience. Lol, she loves the tree and Christmas.
