Heat Rash?

I was wondering if anyone else was struggling with this... My little minion appears to have some heat rash on the back of her neck that is starting to spread down her shoulders... I suspect it is from spitting up in her sleep while we are asleep, then it seeping down her cheeks and on to her neck/shoulders.  It just appeared a couple of days ago, as did the cradle cap that we are now treating (which seems to be clearing up just fine..). I almost wanted to call the rash part of her cradle cap, but the cradle cap is on the top/front of her head and this rash is very much so the back of her neck and shoulders, and looks like classic heat rash.

Anyone else struggling with this?? What are you using to treat it? I'm attempting to apply a thin layer of Desitin after our evening baths and then wiping and drying the area a couple of times a day.. I've thought about applying power to the area to help keep it dry while it heals.  Any other suggestions/helpful hints I may be missing?

Re: Heat Rash?

  • My LO is covered in tiny bumps all over her face, neck, and head and from what I've been told it's just baby acne & cradle cap. It seems to get much worse when she's hot or fussy but it's everywhere. I've wondered too if it's actually heat rash or eczema but it's pretty much only in those areas. I'm trying to leave all of the lotions and creams off to see if that helps. Good luck!!

  • DS gets it on belly and back I just try to keep area dry it comes and goes
  • Mine had it on her face, but that seems to be going away. Now it's all over her neck! Me and my dh were thinking heat rash too. We're trying Aquafor because that helped her face.
  • I would keep an eye on it for a day or two and call her doc if keeping it dry and clean doesn't start to clear it up. My cousin (seems like I have a lot of her stories but she has 3 boys under 2 and they are crazy busy and have all kinds of things going on to keep her on her toes!) anyway, we though her baby had heat rash on the back of his neck and behind his knees when he was 4 months because it was hot here. Nothing she tried helped so she took him in to be looked at and it was like a yeast growing so they gave her a hydrocortisone cream and it started getting better by the next morning.

If she's spitting up in her sleep, it could be worth having it looked at if it doesn't start getting better on it's own. The yeast wasn't dangerous, the little guy had it for a couple of weeks because we thought heat rash as it was in a lot of his little fat rolls and back of his neck where you see hear rash. I don't want to freak you out, just something for you to keep in mind. I hope it gets better fast!
  • My DD had heat rash off and on for the first 6 weeks, mostly on her face from falling asleep on my chest in the ergo in the late summer. My doctor said to keep it as dry as possible and to use corn starch on the rash.
  • My LO also has this tiny red bumps all over her face the back of her neck and her upper chest doc told me it was just baby acne and the rash on her upper chest is a normal rash babies get when they're about a month old she told me it may get a lot worse but should resolve by her two month visit ... So right now we're just keeping it dry...
  • LO has heat rash that comes and goes in her neck folds. Her Ped has us keeping in clean and dry. It helps quite a bit and is usually gone in a day or two. For what it's worth, our Ped told us not to put anything on it but I recommend you have your Ped take a look at it. After all, it could be so many different causes as other PP have pointed out.
