Contraction?

This is my 2nd babe so I feel like I should know this but I'm awake not feeling 100%. How can I tell if my stomach is getting tight from contraction or from baby moving and just not having very much room left? I feel like my body can't decide what it wants to do if that makes any sense lol.

Re: Contraction?

  • You should be able to feel a distinct difference between a contraction hardening versus baby shifting. Someone told me if its as hard as your chin, it's the baby, if it's as hard as your forehead, it's a contraction. Pretty accurate for me! It also won't budge for a while

  • In my experience, a contraction tends to come on in a wave like pattern, peaks, then subsides. Different then the baby moving although sometimes the baby can cause a BH or may move during or or after a regular contractions.

  • They're pretty distinct so you should be able to tell the difference. I would pull out your pregnancy books and read over those sections again, and I think as you are reading your brain will help calm your nerves and help you focus on your body to make the distinction. It sounds like a movement but obviously could be feeling a contraction. If you keep feeling it every so often for a little while, I would say Braxton Hicks or mild contractions.
