Baby shower gift thoughts

I have a friend who registered for a plastic play yard.  It's actually the same one I had and I happen to know it's a PITA to move around and we had a couple of panels crack on it.  Do you think it's cool to get her an upgraded version?  They registered for a multicolored one, but the nicer ones are natural wood.  What do you think?

    I would get the nicer one. I know when registering I was very price aware. She may have just thought no one would spend the extra.

    Ok. I'll be the dissenter here. My ILs got us a stroller that wasn't the one we registered for, didn't work with our travel system, didn't match any of our stuff, couldn't be returned, but was a "nicer" one. I was quite unhappy and ended up selling it at a huge loss to get the one I wanted.
    I guess if you have a receipt and explain the reasoning, it's ok. I just don't like to give someone a task as a gift.

    Since that is something really large and may be difficult to return, I think I'd probably just ask her what she wants. It's not like what you get from a registry is a surprise. Just explain your reasoning and see what she says.

    There are a lot of "it depends" on this one. I would buy the item and include a gift receipt. I can see an issue if it was a stroller that they may have chosen for the height or width. Same with a carseat. For a play yard, as long as it's not a lot bigger than what they registered for, I'm sure the upgrade would be appreciated.
