Double stroller

Those of you who have double strollers, what do you have and would you recommend it? My 2 year old, who will be 2 1/2 when this baby is born, doesn't particularly like to ride in a stroller but if she has to, she would prefer to sit pretty straight up so she doesn't miss seeing a thing. We currently have a baby jogger city elite and she pretty much hates it. Any input would be helpful!

Re: Double stroller

  • Thanks for asking this! I am looking for one too! I have heard great things about the britax b ready.

  • I have the graco sit n stand, it was one of the cheaper double strollers. But, I don't really like it. It very large and a bit hard to get in and out of our SUV. However we now have a town n country van and it's easy to carry. I'm trying to save up for the city select, because we have the city minis and love them. They go from single to double. They also can have a platform attachment available so the older ones to stand on. We will see...
  • Thanks! I will look it up. I can't believe this is actually something that has kept me up at night.

You don't hear about it or see it much, but I love my kolcraft options.  It's the cheaper version of the city select.  The wheels aren't quite as big and it's a bit bulkier because the seating is less "stadium" and more one in front of the other, but both seats come off to turn either way and it comes with a car seat adapter AND the second seat, unlike the city select.  Plus the basket is huge.  I recommend it.

Is that the same as the contours options? That's the one I've had my eye on but haven't gotten my hands on it yet to get a feel for it. I love all the seating options and the fact that it comes with everything. Do you think I could add a stand-up riding board to the back of it?
  • I like my side by side mcclaren. We have a front/back Chicco too- but that is super bulky. I have to say that the front/back is sometimes preferable so the kids don't torture each other.

You can always wear baby and push toddler in a single until baby is big enough for an umbrella.

  • We have also been checking out the City Select. DD hates the stroller something fierce, so I like that it has a sit and stand option. We have a City Mini and the basket sucks ass on it, so I really need to look at the basket on the Select to make sure it's bigger and more accessible.
  • My friend has the bugaboo donkey. Can be a double or a 1.5. But it's pricey
  • Im a nanny. When The baby was born my other charge was 2.5. We got the joovy sit and stand (something like that) and We love it. The older one can sit or stand in the back. He loves it

Yes that's the same thing. Iirc it doesn't have an option for a riding board so that's a big drawback if you want one, but I figured that if I survived childhood without one then my kids could too.

  • So the best thing to do, is to go and try them out.  We bought the jeep tandem stroller and the older one had to sit in the front.  It was REALLY hard to steer that thing with the heavier child in the front.

If I could do it all over again, I'd probably get the City Mini side by side double, or something similar. You just have to make sure that if you do a side by side, that it isn't super wide.

The Bugaboo donkey is so swoon-worthy, I just love watching promotional videos of that stroller but it was way out of our budget. We purchased the City Select when DS was born (DD was 2y3m). It was great because it is very small for a double and both kids have a great view of everything.

@SoyBoy posted the configurations it can do above but we really like both facing out at this point. When DS was a bit younger I used to put him and the top seat and have him face me so I could see him and I really liked that configuration, now he would prefer to look straight ahead.

One thing that it has that many double strollers I've seen don't have is a HUGE basket which is important with 2 kids. I could fit tons of groceries in there and everything. It's better than the Britax in that regard since the Britax B-Ready second seat basically sits right in the basket.

ETA: You can also get a good deal on one if you search ebay for colors that aren't super popular. We ended up getting the charcoal colored one and it was $200 off.

  • Thanks for this. Ds will only be 13 months when LO is born, so I'll need a good one! I'll have to look into all the suggestions.

  • Thanks for all your responses! We actually just ran out to look at the Contours Options Elite and I really really like it. I also kind of checked out the double Bumbleride and that was nice too, I will have to research that one online a bit. I loved the huge basket and all the seat configurations on the Contours Elite. My daughter actually rode around the store in it for a while and seemed to like it. AND you can use a 20% off coupon on it at Buy Buy Baby.

The other thing about the bugaboo donkey and chameleon is they can't be folded with the seats attached- which is super obnoxious. I however love my bugaboo bee for a travel stroller for one.

I have an Uppababy vista that I can convert to a double and it also has the option to have a standing board for the older kiddo and I will get a double BOB for jogging bc I used my single BOB all the time and loved it :)

ETA: I know I have a designer stroller problem, I need to go to strollers anonymous

  • We have a double BOB and a Joovy Sit N Stand. I love my BOB, but it's pretty wide. I still use it almost daily though. I hate our Joovy sit n stand. It's so hard to maneuver and it's heavy!

  • Since having twins I've had about 1001 double strollers so this will be long.

I really liked the kolcraft contours double stroller but it was a bit cumbersome and difficult to turn sometimes. When the girls faced each other they would kick each other, but it was easier to keep their cups and books they were holding in the stroller because if they dropped them they would go into the large basket below. When they both faced forwards and backwards they threw things out like crazy. Overall a good stroller.

I hate the Jeep double umbrella stroller. We bought it because it is lightweight and will come in handy later in pregnancy and when we go on planes we don't care if it is handled rough. Otherwise, it only has a lap belt and my girls will buck around like crazy and when we are in stores they can grab items out the sides.

My favorite stroller is my BOB RE double jogger. I mainly used it for jogging and walks around the neighborhood in the beginning, but now it comes everywhere with me and is my daily stroller. It rides to smooth and has fit through every doorway so far even though it appears to be wide. It has a shoulder and lap harness that holds my kids in really well. The only downside is it takes up a lot of trunk space.

  • I love my bob duallie, it's an ease to push. My 3.25 yr old still loves it too. I'm going to have to get him out of the stroller before #3 is born.

My two boys are getting a surprise May 2015!

  • I haaaatttteeee my baby trend expedition stroller.  The price tag may be appealing, but do not get sucked in.  bad structure, heavy, wide, wobbly wheels, small and hard to reach compartments....just...don't.

  • The double BOB is so nice for so many reasons but I HATE the way it folds! I would be so unhappy with it for that reason alone. I also agree that the Joovy sit n stand is difficult to maneuver, especially with a heavier child in the front seat. You guys are giving me a lot to think about though! Good thing I still have 6 months!
  • I LOVE my city mini double!!!
  • We are buying the bugaboo donkey, we live in the city and don't have a car so this is my mode of transportation. It's worth the investment. I love side by side strollers. I have pushed several uppa baby doubles and find them hard to steer and navigate. Plus DS would hate being smooshed in the back. I refuse to look at anything with plastic wheels because they aren't made for the type of use (abuse) our strollers get. I like they city double but it's too wide for my stairwell. But I don't like that you can't see them. The donkey converts quickly to a single so I can bring it up to our apartment. We are in a walk up with a just too narrow stair case. I know the price tag is scary but it'll be worth it. And thankfully DH is on board.

  • I have been eyeing the Phil & Ted double stroller. Not sure which version yet, we would like.

I need something that can be used for two kids. Needs to be able to be used with a newborn with out using an infant carrier. Want something we can use both on hiking trails and while out and about doing everyday activities. Needs to be compact to fit in our trunk. This stroller seems to fit our wants/needs without completely killing our budget.

Yup. DS is Tommy Pickles! Nothing like living with an escape artist.
Just another cloth diapering, baby wearing mama.

  • I have the Graco Quattro Tour duo stroller.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O69NP0?tag=shopshipmall-20
It has served us well, but it looks like it's been discontinued.  I think we paid about $230 for it.

  • I want to add I've heard awesome things about the valco snap duo stroller for traveling, but haven't gone out to check it out but it may be worth looking into.

  • We have a sit and stand and I **HATE** it with a passion. I babysit a girl who is 9 months older than my daughter and we love to go on long walks. The sit and stand it totally not built for where we live ( country, gravel roads, dirt roads, loads of hills etc.). It is hard to maneuver on anything other than a smooth surface and now that the girls are a little older it is extra hard to handle. I've been eying the Bob revolution but the price tag makes me shy away. If I knew hubby would be okay with another baby I could probably justify the expense. I do have a super nice single jogging stroller I love so I might just use the infant carrier for baby as long as possible and use my jogging stroller with DD. When both kids are big enough we could just graduate up to an all terrain wagon? Unless someone knows where/how to get a BOB stroller cheaper than $500? lol

  • For those with the contours stroller- anyone have a smaller car? Can it fit in the trunk? :)

    Thanks!
