Halloween Pronunciation Poll

Non Clicky. Sorry.

I say Halloween. First syllable rhymes with hall, as in hallway. It kind of sounds like I'm saying Holloween.

DH says Halloween with the first syllable rhyming with pal. I think his way is more proper.

Thoughts? Also, I'm drinking and watching Harry Potter OOP while I pass out candy

I say it like you do.

Rhyming with "pal" sounds southern. Can't even say it in my head without a southern accent.

Yes. I don't really think it's a Southern pronunciation, most people in CA say it like this, so perhaps it is regional. Some of my family is from the South though and I've been told I say strain words with an accent, I guess it's possible this is one of them.

Agreed. A shouldn't be pronounced like a short O.
