Mastitis Round 2

Seriously?!  I didn't even know that I had a plugged duct.  Then I start feeling flu-like last night and wake up this morning to a boob that feels like it's being jammed with needles and has red blotches.  DD nurses regularly and I keep track of the time spent on each side... how did this happen?  My first time with mastitis was only 1 week postpartum, so I get that.  This time makes no sense.

Also I called the on-call doctor and she said she'll just call in a prescription for me.  I feel like I should be seen before I just get on antibiotics.

Ugh.  End rant.

  • I'm sorry, that sounds painful! I would feel weird about just being put in antibiotics too. At least you don't have to drive around as much, I guess..

  • When I had mastitis with DD a month ago, it was the same thing. I never had a plugged duct and I wasn't engorged. I just woke up with mastitis. It sucked.

My very first time with mastitis was when DS was a baby and was 5 months pp. That was weird too.

Glad you are getting some meds. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I just went through my third round, and like you, it just came out of nowhere for no reason at all! Hope you recover quickly!

  • I'm sorry that you all had to deal with it too. It sucks! Here's hoping that none of us have to deal with it again.

  • This is totally scary. I always thought there were symptoms before its full blown mastitis. So sorry you are dealing with this again.
  • On the topic of mastitis.... Does anyone know if it can affect supply? Ever since I recovered from it my supply has gone WAY down. Like I only pump half as much as I used to. I'm beginning to stress out a bit. I haven't changed anything. Wtf is going on!?

  • @ColeyJ88‌ , if definitely affects supply and in my experience it's a long road back to normal but you'll get there! Just pump the affected boob every 2 hours. My unaffected boob always took over and made extra so LO was just fine. Hopefully that happens to you. Trust your body to figure it out.
