Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Appropriate 9 month food

Can't seem to find a ciomprehensive list/ site for what baby food when. Hoping someone has an idea. Right now my lo has three bottles a day and two meals of puréed baby food. I have given him a little bit of banana, avocado and various veggies that are very small pieces, but what about meat., what we are eating, etc. he won't drink water so I am feeling like I need to do a bottle( just stopped bf a couple of mo ago). I feel as if he should be getting more than two meals a day that are baby food and that I'm not doing enough finger food at that time. He has two top and two bottom teeth and definitely shows an interest.

  • Part of my frustration: I read that you shouldn't do dairy, yet to feed lo cheese cubes and yogurt at this age. I read no wheat, yet Cheerios, crackers, toast, etc. I read no egg white, but then I'll hear scrambled eggs!
  • Appropriate food for babies is a very complicated suibject. I am very happy to find this thread and looking forward to read mor posts by baby feeding myths busters!
  • You can feed them anything but honey and whole nuts (due to choking hazard).

In Canada, the feeding recommendations have changed and we are now advised to offer ALL foods (including allergenic foods) starting at 6m, and to offer often. This is what we've been following with DD. She eats everything we eat.

With DS, I used the website wholesomebabyfood.com a lot in the beginning for guidance. However, from the beginning, I would give him something we were having at most meals. By around 7.5-8m, he was eating everything we were eating.

  • By 9 months my LOs were eating what we were eating at every meal. They had 3 meals and snacks. I was also nursing 4- 5 times per day.

Meatballs are a great first meat. Shredded chicken is also good as is scrambled eggs. Yogurt and cheese are good just not cows milk.

My pedi gave us a checklist of foods to avoid at that stage and it's actually very small. I'd check with yours.
  • Pedi said he can eat anything we are eating except honey! He has yogurt for breakfast a lot, and we try scrambled eggs but they are not his favorite. I usually give him whatever veggies/fruit we are eating and mash them up.
  • Just had my LO's 9 month check-up and my Pediatrician stated the same, except for eggs, she stated yolks only.
