3rd Trimester

Is this normal

I'm nearly 31 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. I keep getting really bad pains in my lower stomach area sometimes it hurts to much to walk. I had 1 doctor tell me I had a uti and to take antibiotics a week later a doctor told me I had no signs of having a uti and definitely don't take anything. Is anyone experiencing bad pains like these and have been told there caused by something else ? Not sure wether these pains are normal or not ?

Re: Is this normal

  • I would see a doctor, and if your regular OB does not handle it and you're still having the pains, see another OB.

I never had pains that bad when I was pregnant with DS (until I was in labor), and I'm 29 weeks pregnant with DS2 and haven't had pains like that, so I would say it's not normal and definitely something that needs to be addressed by an OB.

  • Whatever it is i find it hard to believe they would give you antibiotics without running a simple urine culture. Did you have that done to rule out uti? In any case, talk to your OB not people on the internet.
  • I have had those pains where I was crying and couldn't talk. I am 32 weeks with my 4th. My midwives said that they are intense gas pains... I feel for you.
  • Are they round ligament pains??? I have been having a LOT this time.

  • Did the first doctor run a test to see if you had a UTI?

  • I wouldn't listen to a doctor who is only "guessing" it's a UTI.  They should test you for it before prescribing anything.

I have a lot of pain in my lower stomach/pelvis when I walk around and sometimes it stops me in my tracks.  My OB is not sure what it is -- gas, muscle pulls, baby pressing on a nerve -- but unless it's contraction pain, or it doesn't go away, she said it is normal and just walk slowly and try to manage it.  SO that's what I do.  I walk like a 90 yo lady riight now.

  • You're not alone. I have really bad pains through my stomach from time to time, and I'm now 32 weeks with my first. Some I think are contractions but others don't feel quite the same, unless the sensation of having to take a really bad #2 is a contraction.
  • Did the first doctor do a urine culture/sensitivity? I work for a urology office and it makes me stabby when doctors just throw random antibiotics at patients without a culture to deem it necessary. My guess is round ligament pain. I had it and felt like a sharp pulling pain on my pelvis. It's just from the weight of the baby and resting was the only thing that helped me. Oh and unisom PM pain relief (obviously check with your dr before taking something new). A UTI would be burning with urination, cloudy urine, frequency.
