Symptoms of a First Time Mommy to Be...need advice

Hello There,

This is my first post and very new here. I have been experiencing all sorts of symptoms and changes that have me on pins and needles. This is my first pregnancy (my husband and I have ben ttc for a yea and a half), I was days away from my appointment to the IVF clinic and found out we were expecting. Sheer joy and elation. I  am currently 8 weeks pregnant. Aside from the all day/night "morning" sickness and nausea, I am concerned about the bright red spotting I experienced tonight. It was fairly light blood and only a little but it was accompanied by cramping and a headache. Im so scared, I dont want to lose my baby. I couldnt get appointment to my OB till next friday and having to wait to make sure baby is ok is agonizing. Im classified as high risk because of my age and probably because im a little overweight...but anyways, can any of you ladies offer me some advice, wordsof wisdom or encouragement. I know my husband means well, but sometimes you just need to reach out to the ladies. Oh, the bleeding did stop, but im still having light "pms" style cramps. Also weird dry patches on my face....I heard about a pregnancy glow, but I feel like the bell tower troll. Hoping for some encouraging words. Thanks, Vanessa

  • Hey! I have seen this a few times in this board and know that the babies have been fine. Personally, I had a miscarriage but I had a lot or bright red blood and really intense (worse than period) cramping. It doesn't sound like you are experiencing this yet, so try bit to worry! Unfortunately, time is the only thing that will make you feel better! In the meantime, try to pray or relax as much as you can. What's hard is waiting, but I found myself thinking that whatever was going to happen would happen no matter what, so that made me relax a little. Again, your baby is probably fine! Today, you are pregnant. Celebrate that! Prayers for you and your baby!

  • Congrats on the pregnacy! I too was seeking fertility treatment and ended up getting pregnant on our own just days before our last test. I am 8 weeks and 2 days. As far as your cramping, I read that it is normal due to your uterus growing and during week 8, the baby is growing a lot. As for blood, I also heard it is normal (small amounts). However, I nor a lot of people on here are physicians so I say don't stress about it but also speak to your dr (or an advice nurse if you can) asap. I was experiencing cramping early on and was told that dull cramps are normal... Sharp cramps can be concerning. Good luck!
  • I wanted to emphasize that most peopel who have some bleeding are fine. I had period type bleeding that was filling up pads.
  • I'm 8 weeks on Monday and had bright red bleeding around week 6, not a whole lot but enough to scare me. They had me come in for a US and baby is fine. I got to see the heartbeat which was amazing! So if your concerned tell your OB and they might just have you come in early to check things out. Especially since you might be high risk.
I would also say to make sure your OB knows all meds your on and make sure they approve and also to check your BP. This happened to me and they took me off some meds and changed me to a safer med and the bleeding has stopped.
  • First of all, congrats! I want to confirm what everyone else has said, that cramping and some bleeding are totally normal (lots of people here have experienced that and their babies are still fine). I have heard you should go to the ER (or call your Dr) if you have enough bleeding to fill a pad combined with strong cramping.

Also, using the search feature and typing in cramping will show you the previous threads about this, if you want to hear what more people have to say about it.

Hope the spotting stops soon and you can enjoy being pregnant!

  • We had the same issue with our last pregnancy! It was my first pregnancy and it happened on the weekend (doctors office was closed). So I had my husband take me to the ER. They said that unless u was soaking through a pad within in an hour to not be concerned. Some spotting is normal. Remember that right now you've got a lot of stretching and pulling going on, also sex can sometimes make you spot too.
  • Hi Vanessa :))
I am 10 weeks pregnant and had a lot of bleeding when I was 6 weeks. The blood was bright red & it lasted for 9 days. I was sure I had lost my 3rd baby. I had an ultrasound & the baby was ok :))
I'm still spotting now but the docs told me it's normal.
Have lots of rest & try to think positive. I know it's hard. Best of luck & fingers xriss d you are ok :))
