June 2015 Moms

Sweet, sweet Zofran

Wow.  So the past few weeks have been nothing short of hell.  I went from being over the moon excited in weeks 4-6 to "somebody kill me now" in weeks 7-9 with constant nausea.  I had never been so miserable in my life.  I tried the sea bands, the B6 and Unisom (that knocked me out for 24 hours straight AND I was still sick!), preggie pops, ginger, etc. with no luck.
Two days ago my doctor prescribed Zofran.  I was VERY hesitant to take any meds, but she assured me they are very safe.  Since I began them I am now able to function as a human being!  I am far from 100% better - but being able to get out of bed, work all day, and do things in the evening without the fear of throwing up all the time has really made me feel human again.

Have any of you ladies had similar success with this or other meds?  I am still very much looking forward to a happier and more energetic second trimester.

  • This is so reassuring to me! I got a script for zofran today and can't wait to get it filled. My story is very similar to yours so hoping this works for me too!

  • Zofran is the shit.  Unfortunately I am still have nausea but it is enough to take the edge off and allow me to watch my kids lol

  • I do not function without the zofran! I carry it everywhere with me!
  • Zofran did nothing to ease the crippling nausea I was dealing with. My dr prescribed diclegis which is really helping! I take it before bed to avoid the drowsiness and wake up feeling almost normal. It starts to wear off around 4pm though. But I will take what I can get. Sea bands weren't working either.
  • I has zofran for the flu years ago and it was amazing. My daughter was on it over the winter because she got a stomach bug and puked for 10 days... At 5 months old. Zofran saved us from a second trip to the Er for dehydration. I want stock!

  • This might be me. I just posted about unisom and B6 not doing anything for me except help me sleep a little better. All day long I barely function. It's awful. I am so tempted to start Zofran but i know will constantly worry about it affecting the baby. I really wish I could've lucked out this time and been nausea free. I keep feeling sorry for myself and I hate it.

  • @junch817 I too was concerned with the safety but my doctor assured me it is completely safe and and MUCH better than being a sick wreck for the first two or so months of pregnancy. It was her first choice for a drug to prescribe.

  • @shaunaUW, I'm glad that the zofran has been helping you. I have been doing a bit of B6 and Unisom, but haven't taken the other stuff as of yet.

I definitely think about you when I'm feeling awful, unmotivated to work and get off my butt. I think, "Oh man...imagine being Shauna right now having to travel and do fitness workshops and get people pumped up." So happy you're turning the corner now!

  • I am super blessed to have no m/s this time, but last time it was horrible. 24/7 nausea. B6 and Unisom didn't do a darn thing and they finally put me on Zofran but I couldn't get very many at a time through insurance so I had to ration them. They helped but I hated having to pick and choose when I would need to put up with being nauseous.

  • I'm 9w with my 2nd and I've had hyperemisis (severe morning sickness) with both pregnancies. I lost 35 lbs with my DD, and so far have lost 18 lbs. with #2. I took zofran with both and it does take some of the edge off, but I'm still pretty miserable!
  • I am taking it around the clock!! I too was diagnosed with hyperemesis and have been (thankfully) working from home for the last three weeks. I've been hospitalized twice with dehydration and zofran has been my saving grace. I tried fighting it at first but I cannot function without it. I'm 9w2d and just now feel like I'm becoming human again. I agree that it takes the edge off. I don't always feel 100% but I'll take it. I hope you have success with it!

P.S. I'm convinced the B6/unisom combo is some sick joke! Haha. It knocked me out yet I still woke up in the middle of the night, threw up (without remembering - scary) and passed back out.
  • Zofran is great, but it WILL make you constipated. Start taking colace once or twice a day now. Your tushie will thank me ;)

  • If my ms continues Monday I will be making my trip to the dr. For some relief. My poor daughter today who is 3 asked me why I was ... ( & starts pretending to throw up) bless her heart. Thankfully today my dad came to my rescue and picked her up for awhile so I could deal with the dizziness and sickness.

  • @beckynsean11  You're telling me!  Although still a bit sick, pooping has been my new challenge.  Trying various safe laxatives but haven't tried colace yet.  I might have to give that one a go.  :)  Thanks!
