Nursery Organization

I'm having a hard time organizing my nursery. It's a big room so space isn't an issue.

In the changing table I have:
-diapers in the tall side door storage area
-boxed wipes and changing pad covers/liners in the top drawer
-lotions/buttpaste/bath time stuff, wash cloths & some receiving blankets in the middle drawer
-bottom drawer is full of refill wipes

The tall dresser has 5 drawers. So far top down:
-socks/booties sleep gowns, hats/mittens
-empty but plan on onesies/side snap shirts/body suits/pants
-Smaller blankets
-empty
-empty

I'm waiting on a bookshelf to get here for the closet so I can put away all the later clothes.

I'm not sure where to keep burp cloths/receiving blankets. I have them all folded in a small/medium clear Rubbermaid container currently.

Also have extra crib sheets, afghans, heavier blankets, play yard sheets, and a few halo sleep sacks/swaddles that I'm not sure what to do with yet.

Maybe put the sheets in one of the dresser drawers?? Sleep sacks with the sleep gowns?? The bigger blankets will be too big for the dresser drawers *cursing children's narrow depth furniture*

Re: Nursery Organization

  • I just bought a couple storage baskets in pink for my nursery to put things like receiving blankets, extra sheets, etc in. I find they look cute on the shelves and help with the organization issue. Otherwise I'm not sure if I've organized the rest in the best way. I guess I'll find out when I go to start using it all.

  • @AnnieRoo13‌ speaking of OCD, I have a container in the top drawer for the socks! I wasn't letting all of those little items just roll around and be a giant mess LOL!!

A bin for outgrown clothes is genius. Added that to my list!

@CarrieAnne09‌ I forgot about storage cubes/baskets. I have a couple of those and that might be a good option for the receiving blankets!

  • I have a bookcase with colorful storage boxes on three of the shelves. I haven't utilized those yet, so I may end up putting some things in there like blankets. We have received a GAZILLION blankets as gifts, and I'm sure we'll end up using them all. I'll also put extra linens (crib sheets, for example) in those boxes.

We also moved a dresser into the closet because it didn't fit with the rest of the room decor, and we have lots of unused drawers in there for more clothes. We actually don't have a lot of clothes yet because we're team green, so we have some basic onesies, sleepers, gowns, and a few cute little gender-neutral outfits, but not knowing the sex of the baby really kept us from stocking up on clothes.

My closet is kinda jacked up due to when the ac/heat venting was put in (not by us). This pic (I've posted it before) is what I'm gonna do with the shelf I ordered, it'll be easier than trying to install a storage system of sorts. There is one clothing rod already in the closet.

@MmmPopcorn‌ I thought about another dresser in the closet. I'll still have a shorter area below the rod next to the shelf after the shelf goes in. Then I have one spot where like a single stack cube shelf of any height would work. Also, love blankets, but cutting all the little plastic taggers out them was a pain in the ass!

  • I have one dresser drawer with socks/ hats/ mittens/bibs/pants.
Another drawer with receiving blankets/burp cloths.
Next drawer has blankets and swaddle blankets.

Under SD's bed I have a tote with a couple baby blanklets and crib sheets.

All clothes are hanging in the closet.

  • @KMW08 Look at all the clothes! I would have never thought to use tension rods to hang clothes in a bookcase. My brain just exploded.

  • @mander82‌ I thought about doing a flat storage bin for sheets and other blankets to put under the crib. I still might.

Forgot about bibs too. I don't know where to keep them either!

You sound like you got your room organized though :)

  • @kyliedaniellexx‌ ooohh good idea for the diaper stacker!

Currently it's filled with size1 pampers from a diaper cake. I've been too lazy to take all the rubber bands off of those diapers :\">

I put his towels and wash cloths in a plastic set of drawers in the bathroom that he will use and then the burp cloths, extra crib sheets, receiving blankets and other blankets for him in the closet with our own extra sheets etc.

It sounds like you have a ton of extra space in his drawers. I just put newborn, 0- 3 and 3 month clothes in his dresser and put the bigger clothes away in a large storage bin in his closet for now.

I hung the sleepers and folded up the swaddles next to the pjs in his dresser.

Onesies are folded by size but those full body outfits are hung.

Bibs, socks and hats are in a top drawer in his dresser.

Are you guys organizing short sleeves and long sleeves? I haven't but some of his stuff is hand me down and is short sleeve that we can layer.

I'm having issues with this as well. I have diaper stuff and medicines in one top drawer, accessories (socks hats bows etc) in the other top drawer and used these IKEA organizers (LOVE THEM) in both: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00192631/image

We just got our diaper changing table though (last minute decision) so now I need to find baskets for it and can't seem to find any that match or fit.

I still have all of her clean clothes and blankets folded in her crib because I can't decide what to do with them. Bigger clothes that still haven't been washed are hanging in the closet. All the "extras" (diapers, wipes, humidifier, and other stuff that won't be used immediately) are stored in the closet as well so it's prety full.

I put all the bath stuff (body wash, shampoo, towels, washcloths) in the bathroom.

Anyone have a good store or website for baskets?  i can't seem to find anything that works with this changing table and its holding me up!

ETA: link since ipad won't upload the picture.

@scarlet3egonias‌ do you have a hobby lobby? My local stores carry a bunch of baskets.

Also Pier1 sometimes has a decent basket selection, although they can be a bit pricey.

Also maybe a Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Gordmans or Homegoods if you have any of those near.

  • @KMW08 I didn't think about Pier One! Good idea!

I tried Michaels, Homegoods and TJ Maxx yesterday and it wore me out! I didnt find anything that would come close to working either. :(

  • @jess123456‌ I'm separating short & long sleeves. I figure I can also use the short sleeves when layering.

@KUinCBUS‌ over the door shoe organizer--another genius idea! Thanks for sharing that!

@danigirl830‌ sounds like you have it pretty organized as well!

@Econosaurus‌ love your room! I'm not sure what I'd put in the long door side of the wardrobe either.
