Pregnant after a Loss

Talk me down! Doppler craziness.-Found it!

Ok ladies- PGAL brain in full effect. I will be 13 weeks Saturday and have my regular OB appointment tomorrow. I decided to have a quick listen with the doppler, just because. I've been finding the heartbeat really easily over the past week. And of course, I can't find it now. I know there could be a million reasons. But I'm having my first "doppler" freak out. Early on, I would go days without being able to find the HB, and I wouldn't worry because it was so early and finding it was sporadic. But I've found it consistently the past few times. So tell me you've had a time or 2 when you didn't find it even after hearing it easily the day(s) before. I might try again after dinner...

Update- Little bugger was hiding out, but I found him/her. The doppler is such a blessing/curse!!! Thanks for the calming vibes!

  • Relax, honey. You're lucky to have your OB appt tomorrow to calm those nerves! In the meantime, try to relax, and maybe try again later tonight??

Been there, done that! Do you have any orange juice? I drank some the other day and I don't know why but it made the baby do backflips (or at least it felt like that :). Maybe that will also help you find the heartbeat?
    Our Novel of TTC:

*Chromosomes and Karotyping tests were both normal. We lost a healthy baby boy :(
*FET #3 (04/2014) was cancelled after finding Chronic Endometritis
*Miraculous BFP July 2014!! (I was taking baby aspirin and Cabergoline to stay regulated while "taking a break from TTC" and waiting to consult with a reproductive immunologist!!!)

Our healthy baby girl was born 03/10/15 thanks to daily Lovenox injections and baby aspirin. There are no words for how grateful I am for our rainbow baby. <3
  • Ditto what Hawkward said!  They have lots of space to hide at 13 weeks.  Also time of day made a big difference for me.  I could only find her first thing in the morning before I got out of bed or emptied my bladder.

  • I definitely had days when I struggled to find the heartbeat. I always eventually did, but it would take up to an hour of patiently and slowly moving the doppler. But it always made me freak out.

  • Take a breath. I know the PGAL brain is awful. I'm sure the baby is just moved around in there. I'm so glad you have an appointment tomorrow for your peace of mind.

  • At my 14 week appointment my doctor had a hard time finding babies heartbeat. She ended up having to poke around for a while and finally found him after several minutes. I figure if she has a hard time and she does it all day everyday probably nothing to worry about if you can't find him.

  • Hope your appt goes well today!!

Try not to doppler stress. I reminded myself that it's essentially looking for something sunflower kernel sized (hb) on a biggish slice of deep dish pizza (uterus) LOL!!

My LO moved around a lot and even at the OB we would have to apply pressure on my ute to "trap baby" in my ute to find the hb. I had days at home where it would take 30mins-1hr to find it.

I finally made a rule, esp after my 15ish wk appt, that if I couldn't find it within 20mins I would put my doppler down and try again the next day. If I went 3 days without finding it, then I would call for an OB doppler check. Thankfully I always found it on day 2 or 3.

    BFP#4 3/17/14 - rainbow Baby BOY arrived 11/10/14 !!

  • Glad you found it! I've made a habit of peeing right before I use the Doppler. A couple of times when I didn't it's been much harder to find. I have a hare brained theory about this, but I'll keep it to myself for now..... ;-)
