Frozen Breast milk antibodies

My son (2.5yo) has croup. He's been weaned for over a year, but I'm currently nursing my newborn. He got a dose of steroids this morning, but I'd also like to pump and give him some milk for the antibodies. I'm not going to be able to give him much today because his sister still nurses frequently (I just pumped an ounce for him), but I have about five ounces from three days ago in the freezer. I know that freezing can decrease the amount of antibodies in milk, and I'm not even sure if we'd all been exposed to the virus three days ago for there to be antibodies to it in my milk from then. Do you think there's any benefit to giving him the frozen pumped stuff from the other day on top of the fresh stuff or not?

  • Thanks, AmyG! The only reason I was holding off is that I only have a stash of 10 ounces and if it wouldn't help, I didn't want to "waste" it. But I'm a SAHM and don't have any immediate need for pumped milk for my daughter, so maybe if he doesn't seem a lot better by tonight, I'll thaw it and give it to him.
