Runners...WWYD?

First just want to be clear that I've already discussed this with my OB, and there are no concerns there. I've been cleared to run for as log as I'm able/comfortable. I'm not looking for medical advice, just not sure what I will decide. So I wondered what others would do.

There's a marathon relay coming up in December. I will be 36 weeks at that point. So far, I'm not at all uncomfortable. I'm also not super big (most people have no idea I'm even pregnant). I'd like to sign up to walk a leg (will maybe jog if I'm comfortable). The legs are between 4 - 6 miles, which wouldn't be a big deal for me. The thing is, if anything happens between now and then, and I can't do my leg, the team can't participate.

As of right now, there are no issues or concerns. This is my fourth pregnancy, I've never had any pre-term labor issues. When signing up on a team, there's always the risk that someone may not be able to compete and the team suffers.

Just wanted to add that if I do the race, at any time I feel like I need to stop, I would. There is also all kinds of assistance along the course. All that being said, would you sign up, or not?

  • I want to SOOOOO bad. This is the dallas marathon which got cancelled on us last year. So I've been waiting to be able to participate.

  • I did the ft worth turkey trot last year, and idk if can handle the hills this year. Lol. So I may just find a short, flat 5k for thanksgiving.

  • I would do it. I have a 5K scheduled for about 34 weeks. I'm probably going to just jog though

  • I would do it, but I'd also have a friend that I know is a runner (or my husband) on-call as a back up so I don't screw over the rest of the group.

  • I agree that as long as the team is ok with the risk, I think it's fine.  I was running 2-3miles per day up until the day I delivered with DS3 and plan on doing the same this time around as well.  As long as your doc is fine with it and you listen to your body and not push yourself past your limits, I think it's a great idea!!!

  • As long as your Dr is fine with it and your teammates are aware that there is a possibility you wouldn't be able to participate "36 weeks along, something or a little someone just might not be up to it" I would say absolutely do it! I have competed in two triathlons and several 5ks this pregnancy and plan to do a few more before this lo arrives. My Dr said as long as I feel good, do it.
  • Do it and have fun (and run)!! I'm signed up for a half at 36 weeks. If you've been running 4-6 miles is nothing

  • I'm jealous! I'd totally do it if the team didn't mind! I had to stop running a while ago because my lungs got baby-crowded and my heart (I have a rhythm disorder) wouldn't cooperate and the mix of high blood volume and cardio sent it into bad episodes. :-( Now I just walk a lot.
