T13 and Downs

I was pregnant 2 years ago with a baby wet lost to full T13...I am currently 13 1/2 weeks pregnant now and my first screen has come back that I have an increased risk for Downs (1:162). Does anyone know if having a previous T13 pregnancy puts you at higher risk for having a baby with Downs? I already have 4 very healthy children so chromosome disorders were never an issue before these past 2 pregnancies...

So sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm not sure that a past chromosomal issue has any effect on future pregnancies, but wanted to mention that I had the CVS test yesterday due to AMA and it really wasn't a bad experience. I am anxious to get through the next few weeks and know the results, but look forward to having a conclusive answer.

Most of all, remember that 1 in 162 is well under a 1% chance.

@marijaa333‌ Yes, I guess after going through the hell that we did last time it's so easy to get caught up in the negative side of things, so thank you for that positive reminder (: I took the Panorama test yesterday bc it was offered and it was convenient, if it comes back positive I am going to do amnio, I think I'll be too far along for the cvs in 2 weeks...good luck to you and I will pray that you get good results from your test...the waiting and not knowing is the hardest part ):

That sounds like a good plan.

Even if it does come back "high risk," they err on the side of caution and so there are many more false positives than negatives with the NIPS tests like Panorama. See here:

Was it the NT scan that put you at higher risk? If so, try to relax. Alot of us (myself included) came up "high risk" for down's on that test, only to take a Matern21, Panorama, Harmoney, etc test and find out the baby was fine.

I know it is hard, but please try not to panic

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your question. You may want to talk with a genetic counselor. As for your situation, I want to say I really feel for you! Loss and higher risk pregnancies are terribly painful & stressful. Three and a half years ago, I lost our baby at 12 weeks. It hit me pretty hard, and took several months to feel back to normal, and ready to try again. My next pregnancy was filled with constant anxiety. At 12 weeks, my NT test showed a high possibility of Down Syndrome. A week later CVS test confirmed the diagnosis. At 20 weeks, we found heart defects. While the diagnosis was tough, I am so glad we knew ahead of time. We were able to prepare, and celebrate his birth. My sweet boy was born 7/2012, and went to the NICU. He had his 1st heart surgery at 5 days old, and his 2nd at 6 months. Both times were terrifying. Today he is healthy, happy, and makes every day sunny. However, the 18 months of intense stress (pregnancy to 9 months old) were extremely difficult. I am now 2 months pregnant and pretty scared again, but trying to take it easy. I guess my point is that I understand some of your feelings, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
