The kid FINALLY has a name!
Short Version:
No.lan Ale.xan.der born 10/26/14 12:54am via vaginal delivery weighing 6 lbs 12 oz 20 1/2 inches long.
Long Version:
Went to bed around 11:15pm Friday night and woke up to painful contractions at 12:15am Saturday (10/25) morning. Although my ticker had my due date set to 10/28 my doc set my due date to 10/25 based on ultrasounds so little guy was very prompt! Contractions were between 10-20 mins apart for about 3 hours. I tried to sleep in between contractions still thinking nothing of it and that I'd probably just have contractions for days and kept expecting them to stop. But by 3am I knew this was it & woke up my husband. He was so cute & sweet & helped me try different positions we learned about in our childbirthing course and he was SUPER helpful because my contractions were in my back so I definitely needed support to get through those. Within an hour they were 7-10 mins apart and MUCH stronger. We both took showers and woke up my mom who had just come into town for the weekend just in case I went into labor on my due date. By 6am they were 3-5 mins apart and I could barely walk. Called the doc and headed in.
The nurse in triage was super sweet but I just wanted to throat punch her the whole time because she kept talking like I was there for a routine teeth cleaning and not clutching the side of my bed in excruciating pain (I seriously think my contractions were like a min apart at that point, or at least that's what it felt like). And she was one of those talkers who couldn't do two things at once, so every time she wanted to talk, she'd turn around and not be entering any info into the computer. Then she couldn't figure out HOW to use her computer & brought like 3 people in there to help her. I wanted to stab her with a syringe! Finally got checked, was 4cm (by 8:30). By the time I got into the room and was checked by my ob at 9am, I was already at 5cm. I was second in line for the epidural (b/c she was still TALKING rather than taking my blood & inserting my iv) but thankfully I got bumped to first in line because I was in way more pain than the other person (or I'm just way weaker! lol) and having back labor while getting an epidural is no bueno!!! I tried my best to stay still but I kept tensing up and the doc had to try FOUR TIMES! I just know the pain from getting the epi was way less than the pain from contractions so I sucked it up quick!
Once the epi was in, I was progressing nicely, moving a cm each hour until I got to 7 then I just stalled. I was 7 cm for 4 hours. I wasn't too stressed. Things were progressing so quickly before that I didn't mind the break. All I wanted to do was relax & watch a couple of movies I brought from home but Chatty Cathy kept running her mouth! Like seriously, she never left my room. She sat there like she was a member of my family just chatting it up. They put me on pitocin to keep things moving & at least twice she forgot to up my dose after the doctor told her to because she was too busy talking to us about her life story! Anyway, about twice they had to up my epi because the back pain would return. Finally chatty cathy was off duty and things got back on track. I was 9 1/2 cm but oddly enough my cervix kept getting thicker instead of thinner so I went from 7cm 100% effaced to 9 1/2 cm 80% effaced. But by 10:30 I was 10 cm and ready to push. I couldn't feel a thing so it took me like an hour to push correctly. After an hour of pushing I got the worst cramp of my life on the right side of my hip and had a few contractions that made the cramp even worse. They gave me about a 15 min break to get rid of the cramp and back to pushing. Finally I got the hang of it. I still have no idea what I was doing b/c I felt NOTHING and out he came at 12:54am. Less than an hour over his due date! I had a 2nd degree tear and hemorrhoids that are out of this world but it was so worth it to see the most beautiful face I've ever seen.
I know I'm biased, but seriously he's like the most beautiful baby I've ever seen. He looks like a little Vogue baby model in his 1 day old photos taken in the hospital! I love him SO MUCH but that mommy amnesia seriously has not kicked in yet b/c I'm in no rush to do this again! lol
And now for the cuteness...
