Count the Kicks - Twins

Hi Ladies,

I need some help. I want to create a tool for kick counting and I was wondering if it is possible to feel the difference of the babies with a twin (or more) pregnancy. or are they floating around in there making it impossible to make out which is which??

Thank you so much for your help

:)

Re: Count the Kicks - Twins

  • When you first start feeling movement, they're still pretty small and can move around a lot so figuring out who is who can be more difficult.

By the time that kick counts become important, it's fairly easy to know who is who. That being said, doing kick counts w twins is a bit more difficult bc it's a very different feeling when one twin kicks the other and then you don't know who is who.

  • I asked my MFM about this at my last appointment and he told me that with twins he doesn't recommend kick counts but just make sure you are getting movement from them both daily.  I was confused as to where each baby was because I feel movement all over.  He helped me by showing me where the babies are lying.  They can still move quite a bit and when there is movement in the middle it could be either or both.  It drives me nuts!

  • I only think I have a pretty good idea which is which because they've been in the same position for the past three ultrasounds and B is breech, and I can tell the difference between feet kicking me and a head or butt pushing. Sometimes though the movement in the middle is hard to differentiate.

This. With B I feel a lot more rolly type moves, and with A they are the jerking of the belly but I definitely feel the difference between feet at the bottom and head rolls.

  • My doctor hasn't recommended kick counts for twins, rather just be mindful if you are feeling them or not. There is only so much room in there and, depending on their positions, they are often kicking each other and you won't feel every little movement.

As for placement, my Baby A was always lower left and Baby B is higher and to the right, so I had a pretty good idea who was kicking where. But I think B is more transverse now (at 36 weeks) and perhaps is stacked on top of Baby A, so some of the upper movements I feel on "Baby A's side" (as it is known) might actually be Baby B's feet.
