work from home...

I'm looking into a medical transcription course to be able to work from home. Does anyone else do this ? How does it work for your family? I know that the kids would not be able to be watched by me at the same time, but I also know that I would enjoy the independent work and the non commute. What's it really like?

Re: work from home...

  • I don't do that but I do work full time from home. I love that I can get small things done around the house while I'm on the phone or taking a quick break. It's also great I never have to take time off for repair men or doctors appts as I can make up the time later to finish my work

  • I work from home too. I thought I might hate the lack of social interaction and not having a reason to dress up, but with 2 kiddos under 2, it's absolutely great. I put both kids in daycare and have some alone time during the day. Plus, not having to drive anywhere to get to work or blow dry my hair saves me a lot of precious time in my day.

  • I would love to find a job where I can work from home but that will never happen with my teaching degree! I think I would miss the social interaction tho
  • I work from home and am looking into hiring a nanny for the first year then maybe daycare. Wish I had the freedom to do both but no way!
  • I work from home as well. I love being around LO all day...but honestly it is hard to actually do work. I have been thinking of hiring a nanny or daycare, but I really can't afford either option. It is getting better since LO can sit for a while and keep himself entertained...so I am hoping its going to get easier

  • I would love to know what kind fields everyone is in that work from home?

I work in social services and am able to telecommute part time but I would love to work from home full time.

  • I work in IT (kind of) for a large accounting firm - half of my team is in India and my boss is across the country so no need to go in. Although I do have a local office that I could work in if I ever wanted to bother driving there.
  • I'm in account management and most of my work is over the phone/computer and maybe traveling 3-4 times per year. Im the only one on the team in this position who works from home so it was a really lucky deal for me.

  • Right now I would qualify it as customer service...which means I get a lot of phone calls. This job is really only until I can get my private practice up and running.

  • I work from home full time as a project consultant for a non profit. I manage evaluations of our educational programs, do some administrative work for our online courses, and do some random data entry work.

@Minmcgar‌ I know fevers teachers who work for online schools, the vast majority of their work is done from home :). Something to look into if you're interested!
