Even water...

Is making me sick. I drink a lot of water so just not drinking it makes me feel soooo dehydrated. Any tips on how to get the water intake in without it coming back up? So far I dry heave every single sip I take but I'm just waiting because I feel ridiculously close to puking and I NEVER throw up.

Re: Even water...

  • Ice. Lots and lots of ice.
Other ideas: mixing it with a bit of gatorade or powerade, or even pedialyte (the dye free version).

And, eating foods that have a high water content (oranges, apples, watermelon, pineapple) if you can handle any of those.

  • Are you drinking tap water? I was drinking water from my tap ( we have a filter thing built in) and it tasted so bad I couldn't even handle it. I'm not saying bottled water is better bc it's still in plastic but it made me feel much better, I've also heard of different women having to drink different types of bottled water until they found one that didn't make them sick :( maybe try adding lemon or lime? Hope you feel better soon

Yes, about the bottled water. I cannot handle tap water at all. Even filtered.

  • Ditto here. Water seems to be one of the worst things when I'm feeling super nauseous. It's been hard as well like a PP said I usually drink a lot of water so this has been an adjustment. Ice cold has definitely been the way to go for me as well.

  • I'm gonna write these down and try them one at a time! I appreciate all the suggestions!

  • Ugh. Yes. I can barely drink the water to take my prenatals and other vitamins. It tastes terrible. The only thing that somewhat helps is adding in a lot of lemon juice. The more sour the better.

  • I had this with my first pregnancy. And I drank apple juice, fruit punch etc something with a strong taste for some reason didn't make me want to vomit. I also tried to get down a water between drinking the juices. Hope this doesn't last long

  • I have to carry my water bottle everywhere with me and slowly sip on it. I've noticed that the speed I eat or drink something is also the speed it comes up at....if I drink slowly throughout the day, I can at least stay somewhat hydrated. If I chug a glass on a break, I have to run to the bathroom to bring it back up about 10 minutes later....also, try fruit smoothies.
  • definitely try lemon... or maybe water in the form of ginger or peppermint tea?

If the morning sickness has you at the risk of dehydration though you should probably mention it to your doctor/midwife.
  • This was the worst symptom I had with both girls. The taste of water would make me so nauseous! I drank tons of watered down juice, flavored water, and strangely icees. I craved them because ice tasted better then water.
